Welcome back Wayne
It's a bit of a disaster.
"We can't get the staff" is becoming a common phrase in the land.
Whadda mistakadda make......
It seems to be a worldwide issue which is strange really, one can only assume a result from Covid….

That's pretty snobbish. Life during Covid would have been pretty difficult for the likes of you and I if it wasn't for those delivery drivers. Would you prefer deliveries to be made by robots and those people had no job at all?TBF that isn't all down to Brexit - they've let firms like Uber, Amazon, Just Eat and the rest come along and create thousands of socially useless jobs.

Not your finest hour here Tsubaki. Those companies treat their staff quite poorly, but I think there are at least a fair few of us who are thankful for the delivery drivers who kept us stocked and fed over the pandemic and continue to do so now
Care homes.......in which many have an abiding interest.TBF that isn't all down to Brexit - they've let firms like Uber, Amazon, Just Eat and the rest come along and create thousands of socially useless jobs.
Pretty obvious that many posters inhabit heavily populated city areas. What an utterly pathetic and ill informed post.

Millions of us live in rural areas where deliveries don't exist. We got through lock downs without just eat and pizza.
There are a couple of significant factors at play here. Firstly, EU migration has fallen considerably since Brexit such that around 200,000 fewer Europeans are coming to work in Britain each year. Hospitality alone is down around 100,000 Europeans. We're also in a situation whereby since Covid over 300,000 older workers have left the workforce and entered early retirement."We can't get the staff" etc.
It's the same here in Australia...though I'm not sure the reasons are all the same.
But it's a definite 'thing'
The short(er)version was;
For a long time people were not allowed to go to their job, some 'worked from home' ok for them.
But you can't pour the customer a beer or a coffee from home, or load a lorry, or whatever.
Thus, many people were paid 'job saver' money - paid to stay home basically.
Have many people got used to staying home, have they learned to cope? - So why work?
Plenty got plain old laid off - airline staff etc. - then some were selectively allowed to get their jobs back, under worse conditions. Which many decline to do - why would you If you're 'managing after a fashion'.
For what it's worth, Unemployment is at a near all time low at under 4%...and there is a theory that you'll never get it below 3% because the 3% are, for many reasons - unemployable
I'm not sure it is wholly unique. There are a couple of significant factors at play here. The first of those problems is something wholly unique to the UK as its a situation of our own making, and while non-EU immigration has risen enormously in the same period, it's clearly not a like for like swap so there are sectors that are struggling as a result.
Yep I can see that, experienced it first hand...as will you lolThe second is very much a global phenomenon and reflects the ageism that is inherent across society and the poor attitudes towards older workers that has prompted so many to say "stuff it" and go into retirement rather than either have to suffer outdated attitudes in their place of work or suffer them when trying to find new work.
There have been reductions in mobility in the past few years, and I know Ukrainians and Russians were commonly found in agricultural jobs, but equally much of Europe has not only received a lot of Ukrainian refugees but also got the majority of them into work.I'm not sure it is wholly unique.
We have a similar shortfall due to lack of working holiday visa workers, and a cut back in international travel.
Yep I can see that, experienced it first hand...as will you lol
Edit; Although I bailed well before Covid
