You‘ve gone into proper defensive mode now…just apologise for once…

No, I've gone into proper "please read what was actually said" mode.

Uber, Amazon and Just Eat are not the only firms who transport people, or deliver goods / food. Please stop pretending that they are.

Have you checked my spelling yet, perhaps try the grammar. Every now and again we all say something that in retrospect wasn’t very clever, and in your case insulting. Just man up and apologise…just for once….

How much better is our society because of Amazon, or Uber?
It depends on what you're defining as better?

Entertainment, convenience, choice for consumers - I suspect most would say positive.

In many other respects poor - but the point about working as a care assistant vs working for Amazon or Uber was what was in question and currently there is a huge drain out of the NHS for workers who would rather work for Amazon due to pay/Conditions than the NHS.

You could, and many would, argue about the value the NHS has on society - encourages poor personal health as a result of 'safety net', increases in debt year on year, puts staff under unnecessary pressure and expects unrealistic working conditions.

It is usually the case that someone has to have done or said something they believe to be wrong in order to apologise for it, pete.

Fine, if you are happy insulting people performing ‘socially useless jobs’…carry on digging that hole. Btw, who and what level of elite determines which jobs are ‘socially useless’….

Can you at least point to where I insulted people performing socially useless jobs? What I actually said was:

TBF that isn't all down to Brexit - they've let firms like Uber, Amazon, Just Eat and the rest come along and create thousands of socially useless jobs.

I'd have thought even you would notice the lack of criticism of those doing those jobs. In fact, I'd much rather the people currently working for Amazon, Uber and the rest got jobs with better terms and conditions, better job security and weren't exploited so badly that films were made about it.

As for "what level of elite" gets involved, I think that issues around the jobs market - especially shortages that pose a risk to the country as these are starting to get to the level of - should be something the government concerns itself with.

I am not sure Amazon has resulted in any better entertainment, nor has Amazon / Uber / Just Eat resulted in more choice for consumers (if anything the effect they have on small businesses especially is to reduce the choice available). There is arguably more convienience, though then again that might be a short term thing given the impact they have on other businesses (as in closing high street shops, putting taxi firms / black cabs out of business).

As for the rest, I think there is a fairly clear correlation between the rise of this sort of multinational disruptor company (and its associated tax-avoidance / political interference) and the increase in debt / pressure on the system that the NHS and other public services are experiencing. To have efficient public services means they've got to be properly funded; interfere with the funding (both by not paying tax and by getting contracts within the system that are honoured ahead of existing commitments) and you end up with what we are seeing now.

With regards to the bit in bold - surely if there is a brain drain of workers out of the NHS to go and work for Amazon then that is a bad thing for the country? We all might need the NHS one day.
