Endgame indeed mate, but the goal posts will continue to be moved in London, or institutions will continue to be collapsed for another while yet and others will make decisions for the north, but they are increasingly acts of desperate self preservation. The momentum is there. I mean imagine your a moderate loyalist working in tourism to feed your family with this “dictate” from London coming in….

It’s going to be tough gig living in the U.K. for the next few years and ultimately I think people will make a decision on what’s best for them and their families, youl get the few red line bigots on both side - but ultimately the vast majority of people in NI I believe want to move forward and and progress regardless of what’s east across the water of south of Newry - it will identify with what’s best for them and what best represents them in the broader world regardless of London or Dublin - like being a part of the EU - I firmly believe despite the hardliners, the people of NI don’t want to hermit themselves away from the world like the rest of the U.K.. it might not be our generation that sees that over the line politically, but those Ukrainian kids of yours lol might lead us all to progress.

People of the north deserve to have their democratic wishes heard and honoured, every increasing injustice that sends its population into irrelevance like Brexit and this issue are ultimately fuel for change. We’l keep her lit in between! ;)
It won't be in my time (my generation need to die first) but it will be in my kids time. Been saying it for years. The disdain towards NI from the mainland is obvious to anyone who ever set foot outside the country but how we were shafted by Brexit has made it plain to even the most myopic loyalists. The endgame is indeed coming but it will be neither smooth nor pleasant. We are talking about people who would cut off their nose to spite their faces.

You went the backroad from Clones to Cavan Neiler, that mad road that you are never entirely sure where you are ?

Any pints in Clones? As it was effectively our home ground for years it’s like a second home. Creighton still delivers with a feed pre game ?

On topic in this thread, it’s ludicrous to think that any form of ID could ever be enforced on land. What will happen of course is that checks will happen before a foot is even set on the sod, another ‘sea border’.

The disengagement process is well underway.

Ha I think I did mate, over the border, kilometers turned to miles, road turned to rubble, fireworks for sale ,then back over, good road, limit on kilometres, price of petrol was crazy over the U.K. side, then back in to the EU. Quite mad, but goes to show, how mad the U.K. scheme is. I seriously doubt anyone from the U.K. government really understands the border - funny to think the House of Lords voted on it.

Impossible to check it’s that simple, it’s pretty stupid.

No such fun in Clones pal, was under orders after last week after coming hone in a state after the Donegal game, snagged tickets for one of the boxes in Croker and the beer was free, downhill from there! lol

I worked in Clones for a few months from November 84 to early 85. The difference in the price of fuel back then meant I always filled up across the border. I don't know what the difference is these days.

When I left Dublin this morning it was 1.74 euro along the Grand Canal, was 2.00 pound Sterling in Fermanagh, just over the border.

In respect of anyone going into NI I don’t think it will be, but there cannot be a backdoor to the U.K.

In terms of an agenda, that has been pretty obvious from the beginning...to attempt to bring NI via nefarious means and Eu bureaucracy back into the EU and into the ROI.…. I have no axe to grind one way or the other in this matter, but that was always the intent from both the EU and ROI……
?

Mate, my best pal is an East Belfast Glens man. We have been pals for nearly 35 years.

He now lives in Weston super Mare but remains a Loyalist. I worked as a head of Division as a Civil Servant for 10 years. I can assure you that there is no desire at any level to take on 750k people who don't want to be part of this state.

Maybe sometime in the future we we achieve unity but I can assure you there is no conspiracy here.

The UK voted to leave. NI voted to stay. The agriculture economy in UK is going to really suffer

Ah mate, I'm just laughing at the idea there's no backdoor into the UK.

Well if people come from the EU into the Republic they can cross into NI without a problem. Tbh I think the threat to security is fairly minimal.
Yes, it's not like they're going across to the mainland without border checks either. My sense is most in the North are NEA. "Crap, a couple of Lithuanians have found a way into the UK. THEY'RE GONNA TRASH TEEMORE.

It's not like its particularly hard for EU citizens to directly visit Britain, just seems a nonsense check.

As for the backdoor.... https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...scrap-golden-visa-scheme-amid-russia-concerns

Problems at Manchester airport stem from sacking staff at the start of the pandemic instead of furloughing like most other companies.
Massive job for them now trying to recruit as the Christmas gets under way.
The mess is of the companies own doing.

Massive job for them now trying to recruit as the Christmas gets under way.
The mess is of the companies own doing.
They have something like 1200 jobs to fill.
It's gone downhill for years.
I used to work there years ago , it was really good pay at the time the council owned it .
They have since outsourced most of the work to private companies who pay buttons and run with minimal staff levels. And staff retention is really low.
I could have gone back there to work about 20 years after I left, got the job and when it came down to discussion over pay , I was shocked that I was on more all those years previously , not by a few quid literally half the pay.
Just binned the offer on the spot , they even tried to offer me a higher salary and I still wasn't interested.
It's hard physical work at the airport , the thought of doing it short staffed doesn't seem very attractive for low pay.
It's been going on years before Brexit read reviews for the airport going back years you will see the decline .
I came back from Spain about 7 years back and waited for my bags for nearly as long as the flight, asked one off the lads what was going on, he said we only have one crew on 4 men to unload the luggage , there would have been 16 at least in my time working there.
He said we can't keep the staff do are always short staffed.
I went on holiday last September there were 7 planes leaving , most half empty, they had to hold the plane back then because passengers were stuck in security, we got there 3 and a half hours before the flight and got on 15 minutes after it should have taken off, staff on security were rude and had no control at all, I ended up telling one to throw my bag in the bin as it was getting late for the flight he took ages and to be honest looked to be doing it on purpose, enjoying his power trip, he walked off midway and started chatting to his mate , absolute joke, his supervisor took over and was brilliant in contrast.
People next to me in the que were on earlier planes and i dont think the had a chance in hell of making the flights.
Coming back We touched lucky and got through OK, 40 minutes later there were delays for hours.
I am not using Manchester airport this year , if they couldn't handle 7 half empty planes on a Sunday in late September they would have no chance once it got busy.
It's going to be like this for months even then if its like in previous years it will not be great.

Staff retention is one of biggest factors that indicate how a company will perform.
If its a rapid turnover of staff it should start alarm bells ringing , but it doesnt.
Company's see it as a chance to offer new & cheaper contracts.
The pandenic will be blamed for a lot of this , but its gave company's carte blanche to do as they please despite the furlough scheme ( real term JRS job retention scheme ) the clue is in the name !
The idiotic lifting , instead of phasing of Covid restrictions is having a massive effect including the loss of flight crews , to an industry that took the full brunt of the pandemic and will continue to struggle for a long while.
Flying from Manchester ourselves in early May , seriously thinking of cancelling it now , sorry state of affairs.

If you go mate , go really early at least 4 hours, if you get through , at least you can sit down and get a cup of tea or something to eat ect.
Honestly it was mayhem, I was stressed out ,all day .
I don't really drink much anymore but ended up drinking till 4am .
By contrast Menorca airport was a breeze.
To be honest I don't travel well the best of times and it was on my mind for days before I came back.
We decided to go via Liverpool Airport this year for any trips , don't think I will be using Manchester anytime soon .
It's been rubbish at Manchester for years ,
I used to get free lounge use with my bank, the last two times I travelled I couldn't use it as we had no time.
That's another thing all the shops on the airport are missing out as nobody has any time to eat /shop ect.
These companies run everything on a shoe string and keep the staffing levels low ,meaning those they do employ are constantly under stress and low paid.
It's not just the airport it's all over the place these days.
