I loved the EU concept but hate the way it’s governed.
At least the Jean Claude Junkers and guy de hofstadt types seem to have disappeared from the assembly and our screens, but with huge pensions I guess like mandelson, the kinnocks and that ilk. Gravy train and corrupt clique was my impression overall. It could be so much better !
In reality it is to big to fragmented by various languages and self interest groups to work properly I’m also glad we never ditched Sterling so my own final decision is I’m glad we are out but I love Europe so let’s be as close and friendly as possible.

This annoys me greatly. The reassurance that Irish or British citizens can pass unhindered from Dublin to Belfast unhindered. But if you are neither then you must apply for authorisation to proceed.

And how is this going to be enforced? Let’s aside the GFA provisions of freedom of movement and all that. How will it be done?

Is it all bluster or do they envisage a border check?

EU nationals have to show a passport or identity card to enter ROI. U.K. and ROI have had a CTA since before the EU was even born. ROI citizens are allowed full access to any part of the U.K. and vice versa. The rest of the EU have no such agreement, if they wish to visit any part of the U.K. they have to follow normal 3rd country regulations. The principle is sound and I doubt very much that there will be any border checks, it will be all electronic…..

Ah, technology or something. The well known solution to all Brexit issues.

How do the “electronics“ work without a check mate, they dont and their won’t be one. Pretty stupid this.

That's a lovely technocratic answer Pete, one that an EU type in Brussels would be proud of*, but I suspect this is more about a border on the island or Ireland issue. Even symbolically, its troubling given the longstanding history in that regard.

*thought about a career in the European commission?

Nah mate there won’t be a border if your Irish/Nirish, it’s only if your from another EU country you need authorisation to enter the North - to be checked by fantasy electronics.

There are about 300 roads between the Republic entering NI, before you look at rail, nobody is going to check anything, it’s impossible. It’s pretty stupid.

As far as I can see it’s a price gouge on naieve tourists, you pay what 20 euro or so to get an email to cross the boarder, that will never be checked.

It’s the NI people involved in tourism I feel sorry for, a lot of work and effort put in, in the past few decades to rebuild a reputation and market for tourism, totally been let down by this.

Sad really.

As usual, no understanding of the Irish border whatsoever. Stick to your area of knowledge, ie flogging weapons to foreigners to kill foreigners...
