The EU needs to be looking at additional production facilities across Europe, a bit like the Sanofi one you mentioned. India have Serum producing 50 million doses of the Oxford vaccine per month and hope to ramp it up to 100 Mpm...
If they spent less time covering their collective backs, trying to stitch up AZ , and pulled their finger out they could do this....
They could be doing both, although that wouldn’t sit well with your relentless obsession.

The thing is that we have 3 vaccines available now. All production facilities around the world should just set up for the ones we have. This should not be about making money, this should be about mass production....

Well two really, AZ has only been granted emergency approval in a handful of countries so far. But hopefully full market approval is granted on Friday.

Some sense in that, it’s a massive altruistic gesture by Sanofi, but they were under huge pressure domestically in France.

I think we have to look at the vaccine development as a bit of relay, there is a dash right now, but the next leg is a marathon component, in a month or two the market will be saturated. You can bet anything you like teams are working right now on Ver2 of future vaccines, single doses, higher efficacy, easily storable. In a way competition drives innovation.

It’s actually ridiculous and unheard of in history that we have a vaccine 9 months into this.

It's not an area I know much about tbh, but remember last summer the American firm Novavox bought a vaccine manufacturing facility outside of Prague from a company called Praha Vaccines. They were bullish at the time and suggested they'd be churning vaccines out by now and produce up to a billion doses. I don't know whether this is just how it works, that pharma companies have their own manufacturing facilities rather than using contract manufacturers, but it doesn't seem like this facility is producing any vaccines at the moment.

Doesn’t matter Joey, unless you think some are more deserving of the vaccine than others. It’s a GLOBAL pandemic. It hasn’t been able to negotiate an exit from free movement.
Urm it's them threating us because they have shown incompetence ...... they are only approving the vaccines on Friday......the vaccines have to go global agreed ......left to the EU ......wait forever........

It’s a shame.....

They are a beurocratic mess as stated yes we want the vaccines to go Worldwide.....
All governments have shown themselves to be mired in poor decision making, not just the EU. My point is cooperation is better than delighting in national difficulties, however caused. As if any country can be winning or losing. Small minded pettiness.

Only the EU have made threats you wonder why the vote was lost plus then Boris stormed in by 80 seats ....
I will vote Labour if they' pledge to stay out of the EU .......forever .....
It's a failing project great for trade, not two EU Parliaments....,.
Now showing their true colours ......

I would hope that this unsavoury episode from the EU, bullying and restricting vaccine exports, might open up some peoples eyes, but I doubt it. It should however ram home to the U.K. that they are not friends of ours, and in truth never have been. So we need to be looking to ensure that no vital facilities or infrastructure can be controlled by the EU because quite simply they cannot be trusted. Becoming more self sufficient in strategic activities such as we are facing needs to be a primary goal of government.
