So now British citizens aren't even allowed in. Brilliant stuff there. Is this actually EU/ Brexit related though? I suspect it's more home-office-are-a-bunch-of-utter-cockwombles thing that would have happened in any instance.

Given that we've 'taken back control' so that those 'cockwombles', as you put it, are in charge of immigration, I'd say it's highly relevant.

Would he have been stranded stateless if we were in the EU? Probably. There's more than enough to rage about over Brexit - this whilst seemingly unjust isn't one of them though it may well herald the problems (if any) to come.

Also I do love the word cockwombles and learned it from GOT.

It is a great word, and aptly describes Priti Patel, who sends chills down my spine. That she has such power over people's lives is utterly chilling.

The whole bunch of them worry me. The disconnect between them and us grows wider. It's like we've gone down the dystopian path and just keep rewarding the worst of what they do.

Anecdotally, a previous work colleague had dealings with May over a family member (child) who was abducted by the father who was a foreign national. Apart from using the words "cold dead eyes" they used the phrases, "spine chilling" and "utterly chilling" also. Perhaps that's the quality you need in a Conservative government.

There doesn't seem an ounce of humanity among any of them.

Given free reign she has stated she would gladly be executing people and the possibility of wrongful convictions doesn't worry her. I'm still a bit confused as to where she is on the stupid/evil axis on that one

If it had happened would it have really made a change in your day to day life? And by the same measure if a trade deal is done with the US will you directly benefit?

In day to day life no. Being in or out of the EU will have very little difference. However, as I have said many times, if I happen to not like the policies (both internal or external) then I want the ability for getting rid of those who govern us. When we have fully left that will be the case.....

Given the reliance being placed on a UK/USA trade accord, you may very well be exchanging one dictator of UK policy for another.

It’s not an attack, it’s a valid concern, raised by someone who has been involved with cross border trade. He showed no particular bias towards a pro Eu stance.
Mr White’s *spits* retort stating that other countries trade just fine by themselves, does not address the concerns raised by the poster, is a generic brexit sound bite, that when unpacked is utterly devoid of any meaning or substance. This is why people who voted remain get so frustrated.
No I agree it wasn't an attack mate. That's much too harsh a word. I was simply using your own wording there. And I did also agree it was a legitimate point he was making.

But although the poster has since said that he wasn't trying to take any one side on the issue, when you say one thing is bad, and the other good, that's exactly what you are doing whether you intend it or not.

But I do like this poster who has, in my opinion, been a very welcome addition to this thread over the last few days. I have liked a few of his posts. It makes a change from the absolute polarity you normally see in here.

He seems to be a man without principles. It’s ok though, all politicians lie repeatedly
Do you not think he showed some principles today?

Also, although he campaigned for remain in the run up to the referendum, Parliament, when they passed the referendum bill, agreed to stand by the outcome (effectively negating the referendums advisory status), so despite his own personal views he was actually obeying the laws of the land when he subsequently worked to bring about Brexit. One could argue that he showed a good level of principles in doing just that.

I don't know what you do as a living Jimmy, but have you ever had to do something that went against what you believe in?. I have. All too often and I never once felt good about it.

The U.K. only has not one truly British manufacturer, they’re are all foreign owned, manufacturing cars largely for export and primarily for the EU market.
Sad, but very true.

I don't think there is any doubt frictionless trade with the EU will put the UK car industry in danger, and tariffs will most likely kill it. But even had we stayed in the EU the long term health of our car industry has always been in question, purely down to the fact that it is foreign owned. The car industry is facing the biggest global change in it's history, that of the electric car. Billions of new investment is required and we would be fools to believe that companies like Nissan BMW etc will not be concentrating that investment in their own countries. In effect we lost our car industry when we allowed overseas companies to control it.

That is why I would like to see us use Brexit as an opportunity to kick start our own industry again. Instead of lamenting the loss in jobs when these companies pull out of the UK, why can't we turn these plants into a new UK owned business dedicated to making us a centre of excellence in the manufacture of electric cars. It would need billions of state support initially, but if the workers reinvested their redundancy money into the new enterprise in exchange for shares, there's potentially billions more investment from that source. We have a skilled workforce, the infrastructure required and some of the best design engineers in the world. We could steal a march on the rest of the world in the production of electric cars and the more we sell in this country the better for our green gas targets too.

Pie in the sky?. Most probably, and I accept it's a lot more complex than my simple scenario is making out. But these are the sort of things we should be looking at rather than just accepting it's all doom and gloom. We should be making plans now so we are ready for when it happens.
