I think you miss the point. The U.K. produces far fewer cars than the Eu. So if only 18% of U.K. cars manufactured in the U.K. are for the U.K. market, your figures, then 82% of the U.K. market comes from somewhere else and this is what they are looking at. Now you have the numbers so do the maths.....

But yeah I read something....you should try it.....
The U.K. only has not one truly British manufacturer, they’re are all foreign owned, manufacturing cars largely for export and primarily for the EU market.

Removing frictionless trade and thus making JIT delivery vastly more complex, not to mention the complexity of importing / exporting components and the finished product, makes the U.K. being a base for these manufacturers post Brexit in a non aligned 3rd country, a very poor choice. They’ll leave, it’s just a matter of time. The lack of investment in this sector in the country is already a sure sign of what’s coming in the medium term.

Your point about Nissan maybe seeing a benefit in the U.K. market in terms of its market share, in the event of WTO terms being the end result, is a complete side issue to its manufacturing facility, which only produces circa 18% of its output for this market.

But you read something in the Tory press or something. I spent most of last week in Wolfsburg btw, there’s a clue there.

I don’t really see a problem with jit. Producers will work out the import timescales and order accordingly to still achieve jit.....
Hahaha, parts arrive at JIT manufacturing facilities and are on the line being fitted within 2 hours. Delays literally stop the lines, but yeah just order earlier just in case, then store it in none existent warehousing if it arrives before it’s needed.

Having worked in the industry back in 2016, I know for a fact that JLR, Toyota and Honda were all looking at mothballed factories across Europe within days of the referendum. There's two options here, either the cars continue to be manufactured in Britain and cost more to the factor of the tax you will have to pay on every shipment for everybody across the continent or they move production once current models are phased out.

Sorry mate, but what do you define as "political union?" EU federation? EU army? Or something completely different? How are we being "dragged into" this?

“Mr Verhofstadt, the former prime minister of Belgium, urged leaders to come together to build a “sovereign Europe” which will be “capable to act” on the world stage after the bloc lost it’s 28th member on January 31.”......

And yet we're supposed to trust that the settled status app will be hunky dory in proving the right of EU citizens to be here. Is it any wonder there is such concern among Europeans living here when so much of what emanates from the Tories is so utterly disgusting?

It's not only EU citizens in UK that are concerned. We have 1.5M British people living / working in EU countries. We have lost our status as citizens of the EU and here in France at least lost our right to vote in local and European elections.
The attitude of this tory government towards foreigners is very disturbing. Our future lies in the willingness of our host countries to treat us fairly and without discrimination. This can only happen in reciprocal arrangements which can only happen when the tories start treating EU citizens fairly.

So now British citizens aren't even allowed in. Brilliant stuff there. Is this actually EU/ Brexit related though? I suspect it's more home-office-are-a-bunch-of-utter-cockwombles thing that would have happened in any instance.
