It is potentially good news for Remainers that the Leavers seem satisfied, and content to shake their sillies out now - and that Johnson has rather Orwellianly ordered nobody ever to use the word 'Brexit' again.

Both of these might pave the way for sneaking through a much closer alignment than threatened come actual Brexit at the end of December, once it occurs to the Tories that they've spent the past four years constructing virtually none of the physical infrastructure needed to enforce customs.

On the other hand, they are clearly stupid and/or malevolent enough to truly crash the economy come December... but still, a girl can dream.

Is it legitimised? Don't talk crap, eh...

Fed up with your kind lobbing accusations at those who voted Leave.
Get used to it mate because it isn't going to change any time soon.

I think there is no doubt that there are many racists in this country and that the vast majority will have voted Brexit. You only have to look at the number of people who voted for UKIP in the last euro elections to have that confirmed.

But the vast majority of us, certainly the many that I personally have come across over the last three and a half years, have had their own reasons for voting to leave. The fact that the remain contingent have, for the most part, lumped us all together with the racists is one of the major factors that contributed to the huge divide in this country, and will also prevent that divide being healed any time soon.

I pray to God that the down turn in our economy following Brexit is not too severe, and that the benefits of being outside the EU are seen sooner rather than later. Otherwise the hate, which in my view is already very apparent in this thread, will only get worse. There is of course the possibility that the leave contingent have got it absolutely wrong and Brexit does result in a massive slump in the economy that it takes the country years to recover from. In that case I'll be the first to hold my hand up and accept I contributed to it, and would hope that most leave voters wold do the similar. But I honestly don't see that happening though.

Irrespective of how our economy does, you also have to face up to the fact that many people will have their lives disrupted by Brexit, mainly due to the end of free movement. But provided our economy does well, I do think that eventually, there will be a bridge in the current divide with most of the remain contingent. But I think it's best to face up to the fact that the atmosphere in this country is going to get worse before it get's better.

You know the funny thing about these interviews on the news with clueless people over brexit is being used as ammunition as to it being a bad idea.

It was the conservatives who gave the country the referendum to begin with, to give those people that chance to vote. Said leader then quit when the vote didn't go his way.

It was Boris Johnson who fronted the leave campaign and apparently lied to the country in the process.

Half of the remain supporters didn't vote to begin with yet are shocked at the result.

And this country , leave or remain overwhelmingly voted for the party that gave us the referendum and for the man who lied to them in the campaign for it.

You want to talk about horrible nasty agendas, take a long hard look at yourselves. For every person calling leave voters racist, for saying the vote was about xenophobia , racism , stupid people . For every single one of you that has attacked verbally the leave voters for 3 and a half years.

You are the problem. Because despite all the little details of leave remain and the rest of it, the ones to blame for all of this have been backed again and again. For all the bile thrown at leave voters you can't accept others had a different opinion to you. That is why we are leaving the EU , that's why austerity will destroy half the country and that is why labour is dead. You won't accept difference of opinion to your own , which is why there was never another discussion. Why open dialogue with remainers when they can't accept a referendum result?

The conservatives have been elected three times since 2010 , the ones who lied , the ones who even ran the apparently stupid referendum to begin with.

Yet noone has aimed their anger at the conservatives , they keep voting for them again and again. They are still there, still in power. You are so against leaving the EU, when did you call David Cameron to rights? The government got an overwhelming majority , why did you vote for the person who lied to the country?

Stop blaming you fellow citizens and start blaming the real reason we left the EU. You have at least 5 years to do it.

They are absolute experts at dividing the country and projecting fear on voters.

Even before this they governed by turning people who worked v people on benefits, private sector workers v public sector workers etc etc etc

An absolutely horrid gang of criminals that people like Pete somehow look up to even though they will continue to screw the people of the North. To be honest it is difficult not to look on people like that as being idiots.

The romans survived centuries with that method. Divide and Rule.

If the remain campaign had actually engaged people in all of the benefits and the advantages of being in the EU and made people feel enthusiastic and positive instead of just smearing every leaver as a racist then we'd still be in Europe.

I don't blame them for celebrating a victory after universally being labelled racists when a lot of people had genuine concerns that should have been listened to.

That's the legacy, the Remain campaign abjectly failed in it's task and probably helped galvanise countless voters who were offended by the racist accusations and swung the vote.
It certainly encouraged people to dig their heels in, rather than make them open to being persuaded. Not just racism calls but words like thick, gullible, sheep, fascist and Tory haven't helped either.

I'm not sure if you voted leave or remain mate, but if you are a remainer you are the first one I've seen actually acknowledge this point. Thank you for that.

Amazing really, who would have thought if you spent an entire campaign calling large numbers of the population racists and swivel eyed loons and comparing them to gammon that they might actually think about going down to the polling station and shoving it rar up them.

Remainers were obviously happy just thinking they had the moral high ground and couldn't see any other outcome. All talk, no trousers. They all thought someone else would vote and win it for them.

I am a staunch remainer and I am very sad but I don't identify one bit with that campaign, that wasn't my voice and they didn't speak for me.
I feel like standing up and applauding that post mate.;)

How is calling out people being xenophobic & racist having a horrible nasty agenda?

Sit down ffs.

Incidentally, @Old Blue 2, things like the below are what rankle so many with your insistence that the leave campaign should not be held account for the promises they made. Gove was part of the government before, during and after the campaign, so knew full well what was realistic and what was fantasy, yet he blatantly spread the fantasy anyway.

Hi Bruce,
You know the photo and songs are in jest. A little levity today.

And as I've said before, and you know full well because you are an intelligent person, neither campaign had any executive function to allocate even one penny from Treasury funds. And that's a fact. I really am surprised you are still peddling the same old garbage, Bruce...

Anyway, main focus now is for our lot NOT to screw up against Watford today in an hour's time after the extra-time shambles in our last game against the Barcodes...

This harks back long before the referendum. The Economist had a piece this week about the media's ongoing trope about silly Brussels rules, and the trope was so absurd that the EU created a website to debunk the tripe that was printed on a regular basis. This was harking back 20 years or more. As with so much, this is a mess purely of our own making, but it hardly seems like a good thing to celebrate Brexit because a good enough job was not done in extolling the virtues, with people who want this seemingly liking the fact they were ignorant of the reality.
Here's the thing Bruce. It isn't a fact. It is an opinion. You are very very good at expressing your opinions as facts.

To remain posters on here fighting arguments pre Brexit , because that's what you are doing It will settle down Europe need us as much as we need them for trade - i feel it will take 5 years to even out as in the history of the common Market as it was then thats how long it took -It will be bumpy just like back in 1973 when we joined the EEC.....
