I suppose another possible scenario would be for a deal to require more time to be negotiated beyond October, at which point no deal is off the table for a period when an election gets done.

Tbh I believe this is all a charade. This deal that he will put before the house with basically NI staying a part of the EU will allow him to say parliament blocked a no deal and parliament blocked a deal that he put together (however damaging that deal is to our own union). This means BJ has done everything he could so he is a national hero and shouldn't have to lie dead in a ditch when he asks for an extension.

I dont think it'll get that far. Johnson et al were told today was the deadline for them to keep the charade going, they've done enough to keep it going until they dont require it and can jettison it and blame the EU for wanting to impose the CU on NI...the clue was the Cummings briefing on the Merkel 'demand' to that effect.

There'll be no 'tunnel', there'll be no 'deal'.

Is that it? One man's ideas? Long way to go to a firm EU proposal? And what about the UK veto? You've only to look at something as huge as the introduction of the Euro. The UK opted out.
One man's ideas? Charlie, you are a bit naive. This is a lifer EU bureaucrat who is nominated for the biggest promotion of his career. Do you really think he is going to make controversial statements to the media without clearing it with the elite? My guess, though I admit I have no proof, is that the elite provided him with the script.

Tell me why is Nato better than the EU? Do you really trust Trump and the US at the moment? I personally am a lot more comfortable associating with Europeam nations than I am Trumps America.
NATO has ensured peace since the second world war. The EU are not capable of taking over at the moment, and it will be many, many years and massive investment before they can. There have been multiple US governments since the second world war. We had to trust Nixon at one time, Trump will be moving on but NATO will continue.

Almost the whole of the EU are members of NATO. There is almost nothing an EU army would offer that NATO doesn't. Plus it's backed by the guy with the biggest stick of all.

So they say they're nearer a deal.
So what, we don't want a deal, we want that article 50 rescinded. A whole raft of polls indicate on average a 7% swing to remain.
Still nobody has been able to give any sound example of how our lives would be improved by leaving the EU.
Why can't Johnson see reality and just call off the whole thing and concentrate on running the UK, repairing the damage done by 3 1/2 years of neglect. :coffee:

I don’t want a “deal” now.

I want any version of a Tory Brexit voted down, Johnson’s toes held to the fire by writing the letter and no election.

The case for a new Referendum is now unanswerable and that should be held before an Election IMO.

I think this is the plan under Standing Orders next week....Parliament to vote for a fresh Referendum.

Nissan and Sunderland should be the final and derfining light bulb moment for any reasonable Brexit voter (as opposed to yer dyed in the wool, fully signed up member of the Brexit cult for whom redemption is impossible).

...EU Chief Negotiator, Michel Barnier, has been given the green light from the EU27 to enter a phase of intense negotiations with Britain.

I suspect a deal will put Labour in a very difficult position.

If a deal is reached then I cant see Labour winning an election. I'm actually surprised the EU are entertaining this.
