Kaag was speaking as figures from The Hague revealed companies from the United Kingdom had substantially increased their investments in the Netherlands in the last year, to a total of €80bn compared with €14bn in 2016.

The UK is now the largest investor in the Netherlands. In contrast, Dutch companies divested €11bn over the last year, compared with an investment of €50bn in 2016.

“The business case for Brexit is still not well-founded,” Kaag said. “People cast their votes based on an emotion or assessment without socio-economic grounds. The evidence was ignored. The damage is now clear. I think it’s dramatic.”

Thank you for the compliment. We are in a position of strength. We buy more from the EU than we sell to them and this doesn't take account of the fact that there is a strong possibility of a recession. EU member states will be rather desperate for our business. Your second paragraph is largely opinions with which I don't agree. Plus your comment about 'what we used to get back from being in the EU'. This is just returning our own money, we are net contributors. If we are out, we won't be paying it in the first place.
Project Fear nonsense

lol
Think thats a bit harsh. My narrative, fwiw, is that many were totally played by forces who stood, or stand, who knows, from the UK leaving the EU. Merican pharmas with an eye on the NHS, Putin bots wanting a weaker EU, speculators in the Farage/Banks mold.

They have used the combined power of the dog whistle and some long standing critics of the EU to sell a fantasy that enough believed. Lob in a dose of Take back Control and Rule Britannia, slam dunk.

To me, as a mild mannered delivery driver who happily admitted he voted Remain cos I didnt have a clue what Leave actually meant, it has slowly become crystal clear. That maybe me assuaging my own opinion and winning the internet, dunno.

But either way, if leavers still cannot see they have been sold a pup and used I cant help them.
A bit harsh?lol

That poster needs to watch the documentary series on Beeb2 tonight about the rise of the Nazi's in 1930s Germany.

All I can say is watch the programme. If you honestly see parallels between 1930s Germany and Brexit, then I am truly lost for words.

Not for a second suggesting we are heading down that route, but the last few weeks have literally mirrored much of it.

Elected PM trying to neutralise Parliament; Right Wing movements energised and enabled against a "foe". A scapegoat to pin the country's woes upon, and an appeal to a long lost nationalism that normal folk buy into.

Staggered you cant see it personally. Difference is, you are being played by a rich and powerful lobby in all this which has tuned into your perceived grievances.

Quite. History never repeats in exactly the same way, and there's an interesting discussion to be had about the decline and fall of Weimar Germany and the ways it foreshadows current events (I've only really read up on it recently after I dated a German who took me to the Tate's exhibition) , but to claim that there are no parallels at all is a breathtaking position of either ignorance or naivety.

It is also the reflex "comparing Brexit to 1930s Germany" response that intrigues me.

I didnt accuse or suggest that folk who are in favour of leaving are in any way closet Nazis, not even a little bit, nor did I suggest that the aim of the puppet masters in the Leave campaign were either. It was an observation that the methods being use to pursue an objective that would enrich a small elite are very similar.

How does this asking to see peoples personal emails ect play out surely its illegal to do that unless they have broken the law.
Work, but some have been abusing regulations in using private devices/means for official correspondence, ,allegedly, they've also been using burners ffs...
