How is the U.K. going to sort their border in Ireland? Sort that and I would say you’re in business.
I'd just have a Northern Ireland backstop until such time as the technology is in place. The chances are it wouldn't be required anyway if we're still talking about a 2 year transition period.

To be honest, why not make it a permanent feature. It would be great for the area with lots of pro EU business's investing there, and better still it would totally stick it up that horrible Crankie woman:)

It's true, Eurovision is a fantastic barometer as to how the general public in the EU feel towards the UK, Liverpool and Manchester have offered more musically to the world than the entire EU put together, yet they vote us constantly bottom 5 for decades now, we could put out Elton John featuring the Rolling Stones and we'd still be bottom 5.

We aren't liked by the EU generally, we all know that.
To be fair we tried to force Gina G onto them

If you want to get a feel for how the EU public feel about the UK, watch Eurovision, sometimes we have top 5 acts and we always get voted bottom 5, year in year out, and you see some of the crap the other countries put up against us.

We just aren't liked, jealousy is behind it, jealous of our conquering past, jealous of our standing in the world, jealous of our relationship with the most powerful nation in the world, and so on and so on.

Why did you get banned again??

If was to put a top 100 list of bands and acts from around the world
'The UK holds another record, which is regarded as one of the biggest achievements in the history of the contest, as they came second in the final ranking 15 times. The UK also holds the record for most Top 10 (41) and Top 5 placings (29) over the years and won the Eurovision Song Contest on five occasions.'

Norway has finished last on most occassions. Presumably the EU hate the Norwegians for their history of Viking pillage, their winter sporting prowess and a deep rooted envy of decorative wooden houses?
Last 20 years we've been shafted in that competition, not won it since 97, bottom in 2003, 2008, 2010, 2019.

Which is the point I'm making.

Sending Dustin the Turkey and Jedward (twice!) has tarnished it a bit (although to be fair I did enjoy both Jedward songs).

This year's Irish entry was a cracker and I'm surprised it didn't do better, given how political the contest apparently is and much support Ireland is getting from the EU.
This is by far the most ridiculous thing anyone has said in this thread.

My hope is that it serves as a fulcrum for both leave and remain to unite around in condemnation

So the EU were perfectly accepting of our conquering past, standing in the world and relationship with the most powerful nation in the world 22 years ago, but since then they can't stand us? Got it!

It is the most obvious way out of it all and it would deliver Brexit.

The DUP Leave stance is a minority stance in Ireland and no one would give a jot in GB if this was the outcome.

I think our relationship with Europe has deteriorated over the last 20 years for sure.

I must admit I do get a bit worked up watching the nil points racking up. I go all gammonish. Especially when the Irish and Aussies join inlol
