It's true, Eurovision is a fantastic barometer as to how the general public in the EU feel towards the UK, Liverpool and Manchester have offered more musically to the world than the entire EU put together, yet they vote us constantly bottom 5 for decades now, we could put out Elton John featuring the Rolling Stones and we'd still be bottom 5.

We aren't liked by the EU generally, we all know that.

ahem.....messrs. Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner, Ravel and others too numerous to mention might just have contributed a bit “musically to the world” in their own small way :(

I’m just sayin’ is all.

If you want to get a feel for how the EU public feel about the UK, watch Eurovision, sometimes we have top 5 acts and we always get voted bottom 5, year in year out, and you see some of the crap the other countries put up against us.

We just aren't liked, jealousy is behind it, jealous of our conquering past, jealous of our standing in the world, jealous of our relationship with the most powerful nation in the world, and so on and so on.

Do the financial institutions have to have a 'passport' that thing that allows them to sell financial products and to do that they have to be in the EU ?
Okay. This is quite complicated so I'll try and keep it as simple as possible.

Firstly, London as a financial centre is not just about banking. It's about specialised Insurance, hedge funds, derivatives, foreign exchange. It is a world leader for Insurance and is second behind New York for Hedge Funds and derivatives and is the worlds leading exchange for the Euro and obviously sterling. It's banks do more cross border lending than the rest of Europe combined. Dozens of foreign banks have large bases here to participate in the transactions. Nowhere else in Europe has the infra-structure to do what we do and it would take years to build that up.

Now "passports" as I understand it, is just a word for the ability for financial institutions across the EU to access finance instruments in other EU countries. For instance, a UK bank buying shares on the German stock market. Or a German Bank making a transaction on a UK hedge fund. In the event of a no deal, the UK government has said that it will allow EU financial institutions access to all UK financial services, so they can continue as if nothing has happened. The EU have not yet said what they would do, so there could be an issue with London based banks accessing financial instruments within the EU. This is why some banks have already made plans to move part of their business to within the EU so they can do this. This will represent a very small portion of their business though.

Come on, you can't compare classical music to what we have given the world with regards to popular culture, only the US can go toe to toe with this tiny set of islands when it comes to music in the last 100 years.

How are you making the objective assessment that a UK act is of a higher quality than say, a Moldovan one? Which specific UK entries do you think should have been highly placed that weren't?

We just aren't liked, jealousy is behind it, jealous of our conquering past, jealous of our standing in the world, jealous of our relationship with the most powerful nation in the world, and so on and so on.

I suppose your method is easier than honest self-reflection.

'The UK holds another record, which is regarded as one of the biggest achievements in the history of the contest, as they came second in the final ranking 15 times. The UK also holds the record for most Top 10 (41) and Top 5 placings (29) over the years and won the Eurovision Song Contest on five occasions.'

Norway has finished last on most occassions. Presumably the EU hate the Norwegians for their history of Viking pillage, their winter sporting prowess and a deep rooted envy of decorative wooden houses?

Nobody has won it more than Ireland. I've no idea what that means in this context, but my feeling is you should wear it with pride!

Sending Dustin the Turkey and Jedward (twice!) has tarnished it a bit (although to be fair I did enjoy both Jedward songs).

This year's Irish entry was a cracker and I'm surprised it didn't do better, given how political the contest apparently is and much support Ireland is getting from the EU.
