At the top of our government is a large Civil Service. The civil service is organised into various ministries all of whom are headed up by an elected MP, drawn from across the party that was elected by the people of the U.K.

Now the EU Commission, Bruce tells me, is just like our Civil Service, but can you tell me which elected MEP’s get to run and oversee the various commission ‘ministries’ and how many votes did they receive ?.....

It is a federal system Pete, that is how things work in a federal system. How many of Trump's ministers are elected?

The fact remains that there is an avenue for constituents to see their elected MPs in weekly surgeries, raise their concerns about issues and have their MP introduce a bill in the Commons to support their interest.

No such mechanism exists in Brussels (or is it Strasbourg this week?) and policy is forced down from above and just rubber stamped by MEPs.

That is a dangerous way to govern and only a couple of small steps from full blown dictatorship.

I think you'll find that the member countries have a say on the policies coming from Brussels, not to mention the MEP's who have been elected.

But the USA has a tortuous process for voting in a President and he gets to pick his team, the EU had one of their 3 unelected Presidents at the recent G7, which voters did he represent ?.....in fact why was he even there ?....

Not in any way that can introduce, change or cancel EU policy. They just rubber stamp the (bad language removed but it rhymes with trap) that comes down from above and pass it on.

the newest form of racism........

“Nearly two in five people who voted to remain in the EU would be upset if their child married a leave supporter, a survey shows.

The YouGov poll of 2,380 people found more than one in 10 (11 per cent) of remainers would describe themselves as "very upset" if their offspring tied the knot with a Brexiteer, while another 28 per cent said they would be "somewhat upset".

Only 11 per cent of leave voters said they would be in any way upset if their child married a pro-EU partner.

The poll also found that 11 per cent of Labour supporters would be "very upset" if their child married a Tory, while just 2 per cent of Conservatives said they would be similarly aggrieved if the positions were reversed.”

Now who are the real racists......
That’s not racism.

Oh you poor repressed minority you.
I found it really interesting learning about those ships filled with Brexiteer slaves that William Wilberforce fought to free. And about the Brexiteer segregation of schools and water fountains

But this is what happens when language is distorted and the word ‘racist’ is thrown about as easily as confetti.....

I honestly think you need to read up on this and come back when you have proof that is how it works. Each member government could block a piece of legislation if it was deemed harmful to them.

Well I mean the protectionist and xenophobic language used by hard-line Brexiteers against immigration could quite reasonably be considered racist.
