the newest form of racism........

“Nearly two in five people who voted to remain in the EU would be upset if their child married a leave supporter, a survey shows.

The YouGov poll of 2,380 people found more than one in 10 (11 per cent) of remainers would describe themselves as "very upset" if their offspring tied the knot with a Brexiteer, while another 28 per cent said they would be "somewhat upset".

Only 11 per cent of leave voters said they would be in any way upset if their child married a pro-EU partner.

The poll also found that 11 per cent of Labour supporters would be "very upset" if their child married a Tory, while just 2 per cent of Conservatives said they would be similarly aggrieved if the positions were reversed.”

Now who are the real racists......
Your privilege screams from every iota of this post and those preceding this.
If you had seen or experienced racism in the flesh you would not be quick to use the term in the political point scoring manner you have.

[Poor language removed] Pete.

Your point was one that can equally be said about us though - yes, MPs can propose legislation but without the Government (or "the cabal at the top of the pyramid" to use your language) giving time for a PMB to pass and not opposing it, it will not become law.

The fact remains that there is an avenue for constituents to see their elected MPs in weekly surgeries, raise their concerns about issues and have their MP introduce a bill in the Commons to support their interest.

No such mechanism exists in Brussels (or is it Strasbourg this week?) and policy is forced down from above and just rubber stamped by MEPs.

That is a dangerous way to govern and only a couple of small steps from full blown dictatorship.

I would expect that somebody who not only voted Leave but passionately defends that decision even now would have completely different set of values to me, so it's hard to see how I could possibly end up marrying them.

So what would you call it, we have prejudice, partition, discrimination, sectarian.....maybe bigot, superiority.....

What type of prejudice if not racism would you call it then Kiwi?

I have had no privilege whatsoever in life.

If it’s the wrong word what word would you suggest is being promoted by the prejudice shown by these Remainers and Labour voters ?.....

It's prejudicial, but probably reflective of the widening split politically seen globally as with the right and left in the US.
It is certainly not racist, nor on anywhere near the scale of racism.

You speak from a point of privilege now Pete don't be silly.

And yet Leave voters were all called racists merely for voting Leave......oh and idiots, uneducated etc etc....

I can certainly see your angle on this but if not racism it is the political equivalent of it and very, very stupid.

I went to the 1986 FA Cup Final with (and got my ticket from) my then boss who is a rabid RS fan. Doesn't stop us being good friends.
