If you are a historical scholar, you might be interested in actually reading this whole thread, the Irish Border thread and the Trump thread and then make an opinion on who is taking umbrage and claiming outrage to try to shut people up.......

Pete, a "no you are actually" response isn't worthy of a 5 year old. Grow up. I was responding directly to Methuselah who decided to go into faux outrage mode and try to shame me on it.

its like a cult this being in the EU ...

comments from macron, saying for anyone thinking it will be easy to leave and you will better off out of it are completely wrong ..

Christ alive.

As opposed to Brexiteers saying Britain will be fantastic, we'll thrive and so on?

He's supporting his own team, just like Johnson, Rees-Mogg and Farage are. The difference, of course, is Macron is doing so with ample evidence to support him.

I like you in general tubes …..

but not in here

I have a new found respect for Macron since that joint press release. How he didn't crack up while Johnson was spouting his usual magic and fairies will fix it nonsense I will never know.

Johnson today;-"“When you look at the border with Northern Ireland ... under no circumstances will the UK government be instituting, imposing checks or controls of any kind at that border." So, taking back control is a lie, taking back the border is a lie, stopping/reducing immigration is a lie. Johnson sold these Leave voters a pup and they bought it. Or is he lying again? The magic technological solution may be unveiled in the next 30 days, or that might be exposed as a lie. It's going to be an exciting 30 days watching these nut cases in number 10 slagging the EU (once they are back in the UK of course).......

You have no idea which hats I've worn in my career, and in fact I left school to go into Engineering (and my degree was a technological subject) so I would say my background is exactly what you're saying I wouldn't understand. I'll reserve the right to treat any nonsense with the derision it deserves.

But saying "there is technology" isn't the same as "this is the technological solution that will render the backstop void, and it works". I thought anyone could have spotted that, but it seems there are a few in this thread that need even the most basic concepts spelled out to them.

Fair enough. Then you will understand that almost all of the components to make up a technological solution currently exist in one form or another and many are already utilised at ports and major distributors. In addition there are a host of defence and security related products available for use. What has not been done, as you are well aware, is to fully define what the system requirements would be. While technology exists, the political will to put in place the technical solution has not.
That does not mean that it cannot be done, just that there is no ots system or solution currently available to undertake the demands of NI/ROI nor any agreement between the U.K./EU on what such a system needs to fully address. I raised this 3 years ago and said at the time that the technology exists but that a half billion or so would need to be thrown at the system requirements, design, build, test and install. It’s all doable. The political issue of course has always been that if a free trade deal were completed, then the system would not be required, hence the foot dragging......

Why on earth wouldn’t you want Britain to thrive? Just so you can say ‘we told you’? Wow.

Btw, no one has yet responded sensibly to my point about why hundreds of thousands of migrants, legally or otherwise still want to, and do, come to the UK year after year. The referendum was over 3 years ago. If we were as xenophobic and racist as many on here claim, surely these people would have heard about this somewhere before deciding to come?

Or could it be that they know it’s a great place to live and work? (despite the weather :( )

My background is technology Pete (and specifically getting new technologies to scale), and you've refused to elaborate on the technological solution whenever I've asked you, so I wouldn't use our failure to understand it as a reason if I were you.

Bruce then you should understand that the technologies required are pretty well all in existence. The technical solution does not require some advanced technologies as If we were attempting to reach Mars. Most of the ‘solution’ to this problem is merely defining its requirements and developing the various processes for how it will work. Bolting in and integrating technologies is just a normal part of putting a complex system together. We put a man on the moon 50 years ago when your average computing power consisted of a hand held calculator the size of a brick. The solution to a border and distribution of goods and the tracking of people, payments, taxation, authorisations, permissions etc etc is not rocket science, it just needs defining and system engineering......

What?

How do you get that from what I said? Read it again ffs!

Exactly the bold. Xenophobia and racism has certainly increased - as below:

65576

However, overall we're still a very attractive country to live and work in. The fact we attract immigration should be something we're proud of - not something we're desperately keen to stop.
