Surely you have to implement the result of the first vote before you ask again.A bit like in a General ElectionIf a general election result isn't what someone hoped for, then they know in 5 years time they get another vote. This isn't the case with a referendum so I don't see how they are comparable in terms of how 'democratic' they are.
The referendum decision was now over 2 years ago. How is it not democratic to ask people whether they are for or against what is going to happen now that they actually have some idea what will happen?
There's hundreds better.
Where’s your pub Pete? Would like to come in for a pint if I’m in your neck of the woods
Everyone that I've posted in here :Name three....
Again, I don't see how the two are comparable. The process for forming a Government following a general election is well defined over many years. The process of implementing a referendum result isn't so defined. That's the point I was making - a GE and the referendum can't really be compared, yet people keep doing so.Surely you have to implement the result of the first vote before you ask again.A bit like in a General Election
There are plenty of Leave voters that are already angry...
I think the most sensible option is to now ask them what they want.
Welcome to the brexiteers banging their heads on a wall thread ....... The remainers earn a living on here....... lolAgain, I don't see how the two are comparable. Brexit means Brexit but they think it means remain which possibly may happen.......3 years of negotiations indicative votes a crap deal on the table no one likes..... yet Remainers want it put to the people?..........
Yes @peteblue but you know fine well nobody voted for a No Deal, it wasn't even discussed during the referendum. My suggestion is go back to the electorate and ask 'you voted to leave, what now?'We still want to leave, as per the vote....
Surely the democratic process should be the same for both.selective democracy is not democracyAgain, I don't see how the two are comparable. Why should it be the same? Are you suggesting there should have been constituencies for the referendum? It wasn't the same from the outset - as others have pointed out it was an advisory vote. As I have said repeatedly, my view is they can't really be compared.Surely the democratic process should be the same for both.selective democracy is not democracy
No. Referendums can be advisory or mandatory, with mandatory referendums Government have to implement the referendum decision. An advisory referendum, like the Brexit referendum, which serves as a guide to help government decide on the path chosen.Surely you have to implement the result of the first vote before you ask again.A bit like in a General Election
So the question on the ballot paper should be May's deal or no dealYes @peteblue but you know fine well nobody voted for a No Deal, it wasn't even discussed during the referendum. My suggestion is go back to the electorate and ask 'you voted to leave, what now?'
If you say so...So the question on the ballot paper should be May's deal or no deal.
