That's all irrelevant Joe. I know several Europeans (my wife being one) who have lived in Britain their entire adult life, and paid taxes the whole time. Not one of them is a British citizen and therefore none were permitted to vote in the EU referendum (or in general elections). They are permitted to vote in local council and MEP elections. Your friend must be a British citizen. Whether he's a dual British-Italian citizen depends on the setup in Italy, as some countries don't permit dual citizenship.

can I just ask why you chose to live in Britain bruce?? what does Britain offer that other EU states don't ?? genuine question..

I was born here, and London offers an awful lot, whether professionally, culturally, academically etc, plus of course the social network we've built up here. The only thing it misses really is access to nature. We've contemplated living elsewhere, but as with so much in life, there's nothing like a burning platform to provoke change. At the moment the flames are merely lapping at the base.

If you had the cash as @Bruce Wayne stated certain EU countries you can apply, and purchase dual citizenship in his case the Czech Republic don't do this .....maybe he does not want to live in a far right country .....
Oh wait some of our Tory MPs are Nazis ........
On the news today- Spanish elections due far right candidates will win seats in parliament for the first time in 40 years in Spain the garb right is spreading that's a worry ..

out of all the member states would you say that Britain has the most to offer people professionally and culturally as well as education and health ??

You are telling lies @Joey66.
here you go again. I have pulled you on a lie. Whinge and whine all you want mate, but your mate did not vote in the referendum as he was not qualified to. He was also not qualified to sign your son's passport if he wasn't British.
Is he an imaginary mate Joe?
Yesterday? Take a look at when that was posted. Oh, and I stand by what I said in your misdated quote above. Italians who are not also British cannot have voted in the referendum. As usual, your lack of detail is your undoing. Still after an apology?

I have heard the Spanish health service is very good , and they empty the dustbins daily - but other than that I feel the UK has more to offer as unemployment over there is sky high......

Depends what your field is. The Nordic countries offer an awful lot, as does the Netherlands. Germany likewise. It tends to be as much the city as the country itself. Vienna has a lot going for it, but Austria is in a strange place at the moment. Barcelona and Spain likewise.

Sadly as much as we would love to live in Czech, the politics there is not great.

Didnt know that. He has had enough, loves Austria, and has already got Austrian citizenship. Ironically, he was involved in getting a mobile phone signal in the tunnels under the Alps. Made him a few bob by all accounts.

There is a lot going for it as a country, and its location makes getting elsewhere in Europe a doddle. As with anywhere I guess, you weigh up the pros and cons and plant your flag where the tally is highest.

Most sane people would. I take it you dont know my brother. His decision process would have been;

Wake up
Fed up
Sell business, animals and house.
Move to Austria

6 months later.

Wake up
Look outside
Curse at all the foreign skiers
Move back to Cornwall and buy (another) static caravan park.

Politics and Democracy are not too great here at the moment.......

Bruce I am really fed up more so over the passport business - I have told you in the past I do not mind immigration then to be called a liar on all fronts -It's despicable particularly over my sons passport being signed when I seen him do it transfering the numbers on the application form - he has adult children may have been over here for an age ....
yet I get told that my sons passport may be invalid.... FGS .....
Thing is Joe. If it was approved then he definitely has British Citizenship.
