Never mind the Brexit. If Jean-Claude Juncker had a message for the UK in his state of the union speech on Wednesday, this was it.

“[Brexit] is not the be all and end all,” the European commission president said, devoting around two minutes to the trauma of Britain’s EU exit in an address that ran for one hour and spanned a range of topics from geopolitics to fishfingers. “The wind is back in Europe’s sails,” he declared. And it appears the EU is sailing in a more federalist direction.

This was an ambitious bid for deeper integration. No more Europe à la carte, special deals and opt-outs. Under Juncker’s vision, joining the euro currency and passport-free Schengen zone would be the norm. All would join in a European defence union. More decisions would be taken by qualified majority votes, including on sensitive areas such as tax.

Europe would have a single president: Juncker’s job of leading the EU executive would be merged with the presidency of the European council of EU leaders. Juncker said he was sympathetic to transnational candidates standing in European elections – ie MEPs representing Europe, rather than a specific region.”

Talk about an EU Army and tax harmonization is different to it 'going through' as you stated. Ireland have made it clear that both these scenarios would require a referendum as they would mean a change in the constitution. Other member states are in the same situation.
So, no, a European Army or Tax harmonization are not going through.

Dear god, do you really believe that they will allow Ireland to stop this. It’s going to happen......

I only use Ireland as an example because its what I know, but I'm fairly sure there are plenty of other member states who could veto a single army and tax harmonization.

And yea, Ireland got the Lisbon treaty changed to reflect our neutrality and tax laws.

It’s quite a boring argument the “you lost, stop moaning” argument.

It’s as if once there has been a referendum you’re no longer allowed an opinion if you were on the losing side - dangerous, because who else is going to hold the winning side to account?

The irony is that when we joined the EU, people probably said “stop moaning, you lost” to the Euroskeptics, but they didn’t stop campaigning and eventually they got their own way.
Or just except democracy with positive input.....

also cooperation between European armies is totally different to a European army.

What do you really believe Co-operation means, having a nice chat with the Army next door, building your own tanks and shells that are different to the Germans and the French, having a separate policy for military intervention.....it will be an EU Army, run from Brussels with either the French or Germans in charge......

Do you think NATO is like this, is your army run from the Pentagon?

All the small nations could all veto it, but it will make no difference. They will all be strong armed, bullied into it. Via economic and tax vehicles....once the U.K. is out, Ireland is totally dependent upon Brussels, as you are furiously burning any bridges you had with the U.K., and you will be told what to do, not asked, told......
