That 40 billion is over ten years and as I stated the EU priority from day one was greed for a divorce bill - we aged that, and then they raised the Irish issue which was surely only to be sorted in phase two of the trade talks - by the way anything can be taken off the t able in any negotiation- May last night just went out to save her position the hard talks have yet to be agreed .........

Apple owe Ireland 12 billion that they have to give us next year, when you think of it that way it’s quite cheap really.

If you like getting ripped off by an currupt organisation keep laughing!
The thing you said is like saying "FFS EVERY TIME I GET A PAYRAISE AT WORK THE FIGURE I PAY FOR TAXES GOES UP!!!". Well... yeah? That's exactly how it works, yano?

In the case of the EU, you still had the lowest percentage of GDP set amongst the "powerhouse" nations, but I went at length at that about 50 pages ago and got the classic reply - "yeah but Leave won so that'll shut you up". Then claims of "you just don't know how debate works you tit I know better without being informed thanks" are aimed at me when I point it out, ironically, but forget about that I guess.

And for the "THEY JUST WANT A DIVORCE BILL" shout - honestly, they don't want much considering how much they've given you. What they want is for you to cover an infinitesimally small part of the projected spending that you would've been a part in were you to stay, just like you'd do outside politics if, say, hypothetically you and your mate wanted to buy a car to drive it together, but then he wants to stop paying anything but still using the car every so often?

Predicted answers to these questions/points - "but leave won so shut up", "no mate", "then why come the remoaners <insert something completely different here>", "IZ JUST A RIPOFF LAD OPEN YER EYES", "it wuz Brussels"... guesses for anything else guys?

Incidentally Pete, the Social Mobility Commission did some work recently looking at the parts of the country that were worst for social mobility. Of the 65 worst performing areas, 62 of them voted for Brexit. I know you're not keen on opinion polls, but those kind of stats are probably why May made such a big deal about 'remaking' the economy during her conference speech. Sadly, the heads of the Social Mobility Commission resigned en masse this week due to the poor progress being made by the government on the issue. I'd love to hear your thoughts on how the government, and of course it's work with Brexit to date, has helped matters, or indeed will eventually help matters.

Well the head of the Social Mobility, Alan Milburn had been told that his contract would not be renewed, before he decided he would resign in a blaze of publicity, so we can ignore that stunt. Your stats however probably do reflect some of the feelings of people for whom London and the other wealthy bits of the U.K. look down upon. I genuinely think that May wishes to help the less fortunate and she is playing a pretty straight bat in following the vote to leave, yet ensuring it is on the best terms for both the U.K. and EU. It must have been a pretty hard week for her personally, not helped by the useless drama queen named Milburn..".....

It’s not quite as you say though. The EU has given the U.K. nothing, we have been a net contributor for over 40 years. Also, whatever deal is done will probably be no better than any given to any other country otherwise the other countries may complain. It’s a strange position in that we know we will be worse off in terms of our EU business, but better off with our trade with the RoW, it just requires a rebalancing........

Indeed, then they will move out of Ireland......probably to Luxembourg......

No they won't. They put a planning permit in looking for permission to build a new building in Cork, next to their current building. This will be the new European HQ. This was applied for before the decision and they have kept their plans and are pushing ahead with the new building. I believe it will also be a data center.

€12Bn buys a lot of buildings. Why do you think Ireland fought against the EU regarding this money ?.......

Why would they leave Ireland for another EU member state? They'd have higher corporate tax rates and the same EU restrictions.
You know if they move to another EU country, they're still liable for the E12bn, It doesn't get wiped, they cant use it to 'buy builidngs'

Of course they have to pay the €12Bn, but now there are nicer cities to be in and Luxembourg are quite good at not following EU rules.
