I see Martin Schulz is pushing the Agenda for a United States of Europe by 2025...

“He said: 'I want a European constitutional treaty that creates a federal Europe'.

The treaty would then be presented to all member states for ratification, with those that reject it automatically leaving the bloc, he said.

He suggested a target year of 2025, one century after the SPD first spoke of a future 'United States of Europe'.

Schulz said only a more united EU could meet challenges such as combating climate change or managing mass migration, forcing internet giants such as Google and Facebook to respect civil rights or stopping large companies from dodging taxes.”

I loved his reasons for creating it, climate change which Germany and its coal fired power stations add greatly, managing mass migration caused by Germany when they told the world its doors were open, stopping large companies from avoiding tax headed up by the man from Luxembourg who deliberately did exactly the opposite, and forcing Internet giants to respect civil rights (you couldn’t make this up). So that’s it, these made up reasons are why we should have a United States of Europe and he will show the door to any country that objects.........

By the way Pete, this might be worthwhile reading. It provides the context behind those comments, and indeed the likelihood of them ever becoming reality.

I know opinion polls are not exact, but these findings do chime with the views of Brexiters on here

Rather than blaming Brexit itself as being a rubbish idea and that #projectfear was actually right, they instead blame the government. It'd all be better if we had the right people negotiating. What is baffling though is that despite the number of people thinking a good deal will be achieved shrinking rapidly, the vote intentions barely seem to be budging at all.

We've seen it in this thread like you say, it's almost like people have backed the, selves into such a corner that they haven't got the ability to admit they were wrong, or perhaps hoodwinked by a devious set of propaganda. So, in order to not admit making a mistake they become further and further entrenched.

It's mental.

Oh, I know he was just kite flying and trying to become relevant again. He was a nonentity as the President of the EU Parliament and got a pasting in the election, but the man is still a mainstream German politician and believes fervently in ever closer union. Every day that passes, people just like him are pushing the rest of the continent down the USE path. It will never happen how he proposed and nor will it be within his timescales, but I would expect it by 2030/40.....

Bruce, these polls mean very little......here’s some done on the day/day before the vote......

An online YouGov poll last night gave Remain a 51-49 lead, while a telephone poll for ComRes had Remain leading 54-46, An online Populus poll, the last conducted before voting began, gave Remain a 10-point lead, 55 to 45........

Heinz Wolff's accountant son is just another example of why the EU is in such a mess.

You could have a European superstate, with responsibility for defence, foreign policy, border security and other significant matters set up within a year and it would be vastly better than what they have now. There is no need for it to wait for decades, except that the likes of Schulz and Farage wouldn't spend an entire career raking it in whilst doing very little.

Deliberately obtuse, not like you Peter.

It would scare the horses. It needs to carry the people with it and convince them it’s the right thing to do, that’ll need at least a decade of brain washing and ‘education’........

Who are we really trying to kid here? The reason the voting intentions haven't changed is because the whole thing is about keeping immigrants out. Yes, there are a couple on here who may genuinely think the economy will be better off outside the EU, an EU superstate might happen, we're taking our country back or whatever else they justified their vote with but the reality is, at an overall level the whole thing is about immigration.

People don't care if project fear is right, the 350m for the NHS is a lie, the government is making a complete mess of this, etc. As long as nothing impacts the closing of the borders, the voting intentions won't really move.

You voted Remain didn’t you......

The deal itself is just pure self preservation by May, the DUP leader states it means nothing other than the trade deals can now go ahead with the border freedom linked in with such a trade deal - the EU tried to put the cart before the horse, now it's just been kicked into the next important round of talks if the deal, all round is a good one for the UK then great leave everything on the table if it's a poor deal May will have to be removed no doubts about it !

Thanks Joe. I think.

To my laboured eyes, it seems we will indeed have an open border with the EU, but it wont be called that. Or have I missed a trick? Talksport didnt feature it much today.
