It was good and very correct game, thank you for this.
Do not worry much. Life goes on, you have a good team with good players. Good luck in PL!

I wish a nice trip to home for all your fans. They were good!

And welcome to Ukraine in anytime.

I admire your panglossian outlook. And I agree, Martinez has really advanced the team this season. Remember what a shambles we were at the beginning (6 goals let in v Chelsea?). Now we are so much better (only 5 goals let in v Kiev). Yep, like you, there's no doubt in my mind, Martinez has to stay for at least a couple more seasons.

  1. Your sarcasm is one of the few perfect pieces of writing on here. The Chelsea 6-3 game was a Road To Damascus moment for Martinez, and its why we started to play keep ball at the back, so slowly. The players didn't have the ability or confidence to play the Martinez game at a higher tempo, and Martinez had concerns about the goals we were shipping...and so we didn't play with the freedom of last season. Only in Europe did we play with freedom, and we were excellent in the Group games. In the away leg v Kiev, we came up against a side with attacking potential, a massive crowd behind them, and who were unbeaten at home for a long time. It was always going to be a very difficult game, and Martinez probably felt it was safer to play on the front foot than try to stop such a free scoring side by partially parking the bus. He could have made the right call, quite easily....its not often a team scores 5 goals from 8 attempts.

I've wanted Martinez out ever since our defeat against City in December. It was like the players thought it was a practice session just messing about with wasting time, making it as easy as possible for City. Even Moyes had a go for it when we were 1 0 down and went for it. He doesn't have any passion and would rather lose playing passing football, than win ugly. Last year we did well because we had great wingers such as Pienaar, Mirallas and Del boy putting in crosses and attacking teams on the break. Naismith is a great finisher but he isn't he just get's in the way most of the time and doesn't look up when in possession. Coleman was great last season yet nowadays he no longer crosses, he just runs straight into their defenders and loses he ball. James McCarthy is a great defensive midfielder but he continually has the play alongside Barry who seems stoned most of the time. I think most of the street end gave up with him when he brought on Alcaraz rather than Kone in the derby. He kept Naismith on for ages in the derby despite the fact he clearly had a head injury and was dazed most of the game. Naismith played awful for the rest of the game which was clearly because of his injury. The thing with Martinez is that people complained about Moyes being negative, but at least he could get draws in games, Martinez plays negative football and we still concede look at Arsenal away for example.

We've been through this more than once before! Bringing on Alcaraz for Besic was in fact an attacking move which almost won the game for Everton. The less observant fans booed the change as they were unable to recognise the tactical change.

Everton had contained the threat of Liverpool, and tried to pinch a winning goal at the end. By switching to a back three, Roberto was actually pushing the two fullbacks further forward. And it very nearly worked. Barkley - who had come on for Naismith - played a long diagonal pass to Coleman running up the wing unmarked. His powerful shot produced the save of the game from Mignolet.

You can debate whether Roberto could - or should - have made the change earlier. But the change opened up the play, and Liverpool could have taken advantage of the space behind Coleman and Oviedo. Roberto was determined not to lose the game, and so he made the change quite late. But it showed that he does have the ability to impose a change on the game - despite what so many Everton fans believe.

I was in GT7 and the atmosphere was immense I don't know what some people are on about. About an hour before kick off the pubs were rocking, in the concourse in the Street end it was carnage a deafening racket about 30 minutes before kick off. The atmosphere was great throughout the game, it only started to go poor when we brought on super sub Alcaraz to help get us a winner. If we'd actually gone for it the atmosphere would have been ever better.

But we did go for it!

The Street End got it wrong - you should have kept the atmosphere going until the end!
