I have to ask what is Barry's role? He isn't very good defensively and his passing isn't good. What exactly is he meant to be doing.
In a side that's playing well and dominating possession his reading of the game makes him an asset, in a team playing badly and people are constantly getting into us he is a complete liability.

A lot depends on the home game to Kiev. I think Roberto will play his strongest team against Newcastle. If we lose that, he will go all out for a win at QPR. If we lose that...then the team and Roberto will be in dangerous territory. So...

Reasonable team against Kiev - narrow win
Strongest available team against Newcastle - narrow win
Weak team away to Kiev, leaving first team players at home - defeat, putting qualification in doubt.
Strongest available team at QPR - draw

Stanley Parker, Mar 7, 2015

All the fit and eligible players travelled to Kiev, and Roberto picked most of his regular first teamers to play. So there will be a lot of tired - and disappointed - players.

I would expect Stones, Gibson and Lennon to return against QPR, but there isn't an obvious replacement for the worn-out Coleman. After this, those not on international duty can have a rest.

Let's say Roberto will go for;
Howard
Coleman Stones Jagielka Baines
McCarthy Gibson
Lennon Naismith Barkley
Lukaku

Subs Robles Garbutt Alcaraz Besic Osman Mirallas/McGeady/Atsu Kone

I know mate. Even at ht and regardless of how bad we had been I was thinking

Take Alcaraz, Barry and Naismith off and bring on Stones, Besic or Gibson and Osman on. Tighten up the midfield, get some balance to the left as Osman will track back more and Stones will settle Jagielka down. That's all he had to do - react to the situation. He didn't want to or didn't see the need to ( which is more worrying ) and the changes he did make gave us no shape, it was like a kids school team with 7 up top with no particular order of where they should be.
fantastic analogy, surely the first job of any football manager has to be not to loose the game ,then you set about putting players/systems in place that gives you an opportunities to win the game.

Think the team for sunday will be
HOWARD
COLEMAN STONES JAGS BAINES
LENNON BESIC GIBBO OSMAN
KONE/MIRALLAS
LUKAKU

“It is difficult to get rid of the emotions we felt after Thursday night,” he admitted. “We all carry the confidence that a victory gives you but, in the same way, you feel damaged by a defeat. On top of that we were knocked out of Europe after all the desire and effort that we had put in.

“Against Dynamo we were touching a dream – and that dream got shattered. Emotionally you get the effects of that.

“But now it is about making sure we turn around for the game on Sunday as quick as we can. The next three points after the win over Newcastle have become extra significant and without European competition, we need to make sure we are fully prepared for every game remaining in the league.”

Last weekend's 3-0 victory over Newcastle saw Everton produce one of their best performances of the campaign to date and Martinez believes his players may need to produce a similar performance in west London.

He added: “We have accumulated enough experience after playing 10 games in Europe to know what is needed and how we can cope within the squad.

“I expect a really difficult game. QPR, at home, have found a way of playing that is effective.

"They have four games left to play at Loftus Road, which will all be big finals for them.

“But the lesson we need to learn from the Dynamo game is to not get affected by the environment and what is around us, and perform as well as we can.”

Yep that,s Bobby ...a dreamer. I mean it,s not like we have got another fella in the main stand who dreams all day.

Hog + wash.

The majority of that team last night had more than enough experience of hostile environments to cope with it.

LUKAKU

I think it will be that side but McCarthy in place of Besic mate and wouldn't surprise me to see Naismith behind Lukaku.

What I would like to see is

Stones
McCarthy
Barkley
Lukaku

Just them 4 will do me mate.

I am worried what last nights performance will do to the teams confidence, they will either crumble completely
or have a good long look at themselves and have a f-------g good go on Sunday, they owe us big time and
especially the fans who went to Kiev.

QPR press conference starts at 14:00, looks like bobby has done a alcaraz and not showed up
Kyiv were phenomenal and we had moments.
Martinez has no solution to our problems. Even worse he refuses to admit we have a problem! I guess he thinks being six points off relegation is normal.
We're getting results like Wigan, we're playing like Wigan, defending like Wigan and will go down like Wigan if we're not careful.

About 6 games before the end of the season he got Wigan relegated, Booby (in a Sky interview) refused to even concede he was in a relegation battle. The man is deluded, a clueless clown. My dislike for him grows exponentially.

Last night was confidence shattering in so many ways. Did you see the frustration in McCarthy's face when he was brought off. I feel worse about it now than last night. Kiev were good side but we threw the advantage away. Took us a while to recover from the Bucharest mauling. I think everyone wants the season over. Expect enough wins to be safe but this season will set us back a lot in terms of the plan to build us up as the next team to knock on the top four door.
