Sorry...just deleted my post as it was too inflammatory.

It depends on whether you think America should go backwards or forwards in terms of race and religious tolerance. The campaign and appointments thus far suggest that a Trump presidency will take us backwards in that respect...unless you are white.

written like a Guardian columnist: focus on the identity politics angle.

we've unanimously agreed to wait 'n see. Those of us on Twitter (@chicoazul) will be spreading #givetrumpachance
Hmmm - not as unanimous as you would have me believe given the below

Tidy missus and daughter. Boss popcorn.

Would be GREAT on GOT.
When's he signing up to make GOT GREAT again

Don't concern myself with the tolerance or otherwise of race and religion on that side of the pond - do you think he will be able to be that divisive?
My (vague) understanding is that he's not that popular within the mainstream, so will he be blocked (or at least tempered) by Congress?
Is part of the concern that he does get to appoint a couple(?) of Supreme Court judges who will be "sympathetic" to his views.

an estimated 20% of non-whites (based on exit polling data) voted for Trump. Probably around three times more than this went for Hillary. The census will tell us more.

A significant difference, sure...but Trump's non-white support is better than Romney 2012 or McCain 2008, and on par with Bush Jr (vs Kerry/Gore back then).

So is every Republican government seen as automatically bad for non-whites?

His appointments would suggest so. He is very popular with white people in middle America...he did win the electorate. He's appointed as his Chief Strategist and Senior Counselor someone who is at best alt-right. A nationalist (make no mistake that is code for white) movement that would see tolerance taken back decades.

Congress is also Republican...both houses...and yes he will appoint conservative justices...somewhere between 1 and 3 depending on health (lifetime appointments).

As a nation we are moving backwards with his administration socially and economically. I suppose some white people agree with his views, but this white person doesn't.

@ilikecheese

Not sure the point you are trying to make?

Agreed. A worthy 1st female President. Shame the party chose to gerrymander for a self-entitled nominee with half (generous at best) the integrity and appeal. Justice was therefore served.

Erm, that and she didn't want to run? Felt it was a goldfish bowl of constant scrutiny.

Notwithstanding the fact if Barack Obama was seen to be influencing her in any way, it could easily be portrayed as circumventing the constitution on limited terms.

Two year break now (allowing for the start of primaries) and a fresh run at the job.
