Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

I have nothing against Mrs Obama, and on the face of it she seems a decent person, however but I don't know anything about her political beliefs or personality, I doubt many on here do either. The last thing America needs is another dynasty. Out of 300m people surly there are plenty of other candidates out there. Following this Trump calamity, do people not have the ability to think past their tv/computer screens/populist bubble?

Good post. The trouble is I cannot see a many alternatives to Corbyn within the Labour party.

Frank Fields is the only labour politician I can think of.
Harold Wilson ?? Aneurin Bevin ?? keep up lad. No trouble about alternatives in the "Labour " party now - agree with you - most of them are blairites. BTW Frank Field voted with the Tories on the last welfare bill.

I remember what racial profiling was bad.

This thread though, absolutely LOLtastic, watching non Americans telling Americans to get over it, move on, get used to it and march to the tune of the beat.

Where do people get off doing that like?

Unfortunately US foreign policy affect Europe in a massive way. Hence the interest.

They are undoubtedly examples of anti-establishment action but whether they will "win" in the end is hugely debatable. I strongly suspect not since they're both examples of the privileged manipulating the mob to their own ends. Fascistic, really.

Partly yes, but mostly they got the anti-establishment vote.

As a strong supporter of Brexit and weak advocate for Trump (he is an utter arsehole, but I love his anti-PC ness), I think you are wrong. Looking at it rationally, some of Corbyn's policies and positions include:

Socialist - an ideology that hasn't been voted in since 1970s and is failing worldwide
Supposed IRA sympathy, and Hamas + Hezbollah "friends"
Falklands discussion with Argentina (he visits the Argentine embassy and gives talks about this)
Stop The War chairman
Abolition of grammar schools
Pro-immigration
Pro-EU
Part of a liberal group of Islington metropolitan politicians out of touch with many of the disenfranchised working classes in the industrial North
Anti-Trident and refuses to press nuclear button
Shadow cabinet and party of jokes (Abbot, Thornberry, Livingstone, Vaz, etc)
Doesn't sing national anthem or wear red poppy without being forced to
Has a communist shadow chancellor who quotes Mao
No "shoot-to-kill" policy for terrorists
Anti-monarchy
Disliked by most of his party
Anti-bombing ISIS
Hypocritical - rebelled against the party whip more times than any other MP, then sacks those who go against him/calls for PLP unity

These views don't really remotely resonate with Middle England swing constituencies. Even if they agree with one or two of his ideas above, they won't vote for him because of the other ones. In contrast, Brexit and Trump promoted anti-immigration, nationalist policies, essentially the opposite of Corbyn. Labour need a 10% swing in GE2020 for a majority of one. That's before pro-Tory 2018 boundary changes which give them another 15 seat cushion. Meanwhile, polls (which have recently underestimated support for the right) have Tories in a record 10-16 point lead for a sitting government at this stage of the electoral cycle. In contrast, Miliband had a 5+ point lead at this stage.

Whilst I can see the parallels between Trump and Corbyn in terms of being outsiders/anti-establishment, the two aren't really similar. What drew people towards Trump will draw probably them away from Corbyn. You may disagree, and I will admit if I'm wrong, but I just can't see it.

Good post, tho' the reason I feel Corbyn will succeed isn't because he shares much policy with Trump, it's because of the anti-establishment factor.

This factor will define politics (and potentially media) for the next decade.

.

No no, interest, debate etc, totally, it's a forum as well to boot. America's a big player in the world (although not as big as they used to be or as big as they think).

I mean telling Americans to suck it up in not so many words, that's just strange and offensive in my opinion. I probably haven't explained this very well!

I'm usually a centre-right wing voter, not gonna lie, but I'll be damned if I told people on here that Thatcher was great for England. It's a similar scenario here, some people will come off better with Trump, some won't, but it's not our place to tell them to get over it when it affects their lives.

who said stuff like get over it?

agree with you to a certain extent, but discussion can benefit from outside opinion, depends how it's worded and how strong the argument is.

Also, take the Philippines: many locals are kinda liking Duterte's hard line, but an outsider will mostly be repulsed by it, and will say so.

In the case of US, you add their foreign policy to the mix which profoundly affects dozens of countries. So I'm ok with telling an American their Obama is morally tainted and I prefer the 'hope' of a Trump administration which will work with, not against, Russia to solve Arab problems.
