I mentioned that earlier in the thread.......not just where you were from, but if you had an Israeli stamp in your passport.....
I don't understand why the actions and policies of violent, oligarchical (at best), theocratic regimes should influence the way we treat people.

"Hey these guys we don't like treat people like worse dirt than we're treating people, that means it's all good, right?"

I mean, Appeal to Bandwagon all you want, but this is a weird bandwagon to want to join.

Over ten islamic countries deny entry to their land if you happened to be from Israel and jew

That doesn't excuse Trump though does it?

Women don't have the vote in some countries, does that mean its okay for the USA to implement that also?

You can get a separate removable page with the stamp on it. Every country in the region knows how this works. It's wrong but everyone knows there's a work around.
As Linekerslegs said, I don't want our foreign policy based on countries of this region.
Two wrongs don't make a right.

Of course it will. Its the game isnt it? Blow smoke up his backside, and do deals and stuff. It stinks, but its the world we are in.

Only thing I'd say is, we've got to be careful not to end up being another Blair government to the George Bush administration.

Yes, flatter the guy and get him onside, but we still have morales and standards in this country which mean something. We shouldn't sink as low as blindly embracing any vile measure which Trump may implement.

So, to sum up this thread, we all believe that Trump is a bit of a lad, that he's just winding everyone up but is right in what he does and will probably be a greater President than that Obama chappie...........I may have had a glass of wine.....

No, my issue is to show all that are wrong our displeasure, not just those who we think may listen to it or are from the west.......

Do you think getting a good trade deal with Trump is more important than human decency?
You're better than this.

Good trade deals will directly impact the QoL of the citizens of the U.K. For your government, that has to come first. That doesn't mean the U.K. government shouldn't stand against this, or possibly even cancel the visit. But it's not a simple black and white question, and we shouldn't lower the discussion to that.

Is it human decency to annoy Trump enough for him to try and end the favored nation trade status? How many people would end up out of work if that happened? Who would it affect?

All that stuff does need to be weighed against the moral and legal issues involved. In the end, I do think the developed world needs to take a stand against Trump. But I don't think you can fault someone for deciding that cancelling a state visit is the wrong way to go about it.

I agree to an extent, and I'm not claiming @roydo is not taking the moral side into account.

I'm asking the question, how far do you sacrifice morals to ensure relationships are upheld for a good deal? Would the government have condemned Trumps' actions already if we weren't looking for a trade deal?

At what point do you start 'annoying Trump' by condemning his actions and risk him ending that status though? We have no idea how bad it will get or how far he will go. I'm not saying now is the time, but it might get to that point.
