Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

The wet market issue is much bigger than just China though. In Africa bush meat is sold in markets in much the same way and also in South America. As such a much wider conversation about safe practice, sustainability and the environment would be helpful.

A conversation with the CCP about not acting as they do would be great but would fall on deaf ears. That needs to come from within but it feels like the Chinese people are a long way from that at any significant level.

The corruption just gets so much deeper with every passing week. I really don't think we are coming out of these four years with a functioning society in tact. And so many people knew that would be the case.

Last thing from me is I think the consequences of going crazy over this need to be weighed more than you're doing. It isn't going to be as straightforward as how you're telling it. Going in with threats and demands could get messy, and we don't need to pile on top of the economic crap pile that is coming.

That would work if this was the only thing the Chinese government were up to. It isn’t - this is a regime that is according to reports incarcerating more than a million people because of their ethnicity, and who somehow are able to conduct organ transplants with far less wait times (so much so that they can be booked in advance) than the rest of the world is despite only recently getting an organ donation scheme established (mass incarceration and speedy organ transplants being two things that are probably not unrelated).

Then there is this crisis, in which even the official narrative says they tried to suppress notification of this and where two months of no action being taken did, according to them, produced far fewer deaths than anywhere else in the world.

Criticism of the Chinese government shouldn’t distract from the immense mess some governments in the West have made of this crisis, both in the years prior to it and as a response, but we really should not be trading with them to anything like the extent that we are. It’s damaging us and it’s damaging them (the Chinese people).

For me, calling it the Chinese Virus is crude but accurate. If a few people fall victim to idiots but the end result is massive political pressure on those communist idiots to get their house in order, then it's a price worth paying.

The whole world should be shunning China right now. Every country. Because what they did was inexcusable. I have zero issue with Trump shining a light on something which has directly caused this misery.

By that very same logic, the whole world should have turned their back on, and shunned Europe, as the 1918 epidemic originated there?

Gives billions to airlines and oil companies

Won't find an organisation that is fighting pandemics.
Not just covid 19, but polio, Ebola and others

I hope Bill Gates or someone steps in and funds it
Yep. childish posturing looking for someone to blame for his own dreadful performance.

This will hurt the world more than help it and glad other countries aren't following suit, and credit to them for not taking a lazy headline

I guess a broke clock is right twice a day. To me there is importance to motivation and when the motivation is to scapegoat and to a degree bigoted I'm not too bothered if there is some merit behind doing it. Personally I don't follow the WHO close enough to say whether they're worthwhile or not but again this seems to fit into Trump's wars on science and on paying world organizations that benefit us because they also benefit others. And those are to things I oppose.

While China did start the epidemic, the response from basically every country but a select few like NZ, South Korea and Germany has been so disgraceful that they really don't have room to point the finger. Everyone could have done better and also screwed it up.
Have a look at the work done in Kerala and compare it to Modi's response in the rest of India

I find it odd that the hatred of Donald Trump makes certain people take the opposing view of his on any subject, even if it makes no sense to do so.

This is a prime example. Trump says China caused the virus, so anti Trump people will go out of their way to say they didn't.

Because political tribalism is a thing.

I find that post bizarre mate, really do. What China did was a textbook example of negligence and I can't fathom why people would argue otherwise.
I haven't seen anyone disagree with the statement the Virus originated in China, or that their appalling animal rights status is largely to blame (apart from folk who think it is a man made weapon or a hoax)

Pretty easy to say that when you aren’t one of the people paying tbf.

And I don’t see why you have to label coronavirus the “Chinese virus” to generate political pressure, in fact I’d argue it is actively counterproductive as it leads to charges of a racial ulterior motive rather than one due the abhorrent conditions in the wet markets and the Chinese governments secrecy both in the early stages and now in allowing investigation of the outbreak origins.
exactly right, those who have never suffered the effects of racism love to posture about when those who do have a right to complain or be offended

Why does everything have to turn politic? Trump is an Uber bell end, but he is completely right about WHO and China.

They both lied and covered it up exposing millions of people to the virus, people are quick to blame governments responses... well perhaps they put their trust into the org that they all pay into WHO for expert advice?

Taiwan didn't. They knew China were lying and called them out to the WHO were treated them disgustingly.
