Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

If what they're saying about people with no symptoms transmitting the disease is true, than it probably wasn't avoidable. Getting enough tests made to catch those people would have been nearly impossible. They would have spread it regardless of China's actions.

But my point that the showings from all the other countries make it clear that none of them would have handled it better. So lawsuits and reparations for this feels to me like Germany post WWI. Yeah they were wrong, but being unnecessarily harsh isn't the right idea either.

I mean the NYC outbreak traces to Italy and not China. So do they take blame as the middle man? They could have done better too right? This whole thing is pointless.

We're not exactly asking them to do a whole lot though. That's why I keep saying I don't see a need for it to get all crazy. I think there is a real chance it can be done without threats.

Because saying "down with this sort of thing" like Father Ted isn't going to get the same response as severe recriminations if they don't reply.

It's the difference between Khruschev backing down to Kennedy with the threat of a nuke to the face, and Chamberlain waving a worthless piece of paper as Hitler marches into Czechoslovakia.

China has already re-opened the wet markets - that's how much of a toss they give.

Last thing from me is I think the consequences of going crazy over this need to be weighed more than you're doing. It isn't going to be as straightforward as how you're telling it. Going in with threats and demands could get messy, and we don't need to pile on top of the economic crap pile that is coming.

They'll be an article along those lines in every country. Again if China screwed up and no one else did I'd say get the pitchforks, but Trump and the like will use it to move the focus from their incompetence and that doesn't work for me.

That's what happened. You seem to think other countries are somehow accountable for failing to correctly manage a massively contagious virus that originated in China because of Chinese negligence.

So yeah... the bold bit is what happened. I like that you admit that your distaste for it being a positive for Trump is your hang up in regards to not recognising it, but here's where your ire should be directed; China gave Trump the ammo through their negligence and secrecy. If China had listened in 2004 and had been honest about this virus earlier, the ammo isn't there to be fired by Trump is it?

I couldn't give a toss about whether Trump benefits politically from labelling it the Chinese Virus or not. Couldn't care less. All I'm interested in is lessons being learned from this and actions being taken to stop it happening again as far as humanly possible. Letting China off the hook for it and screaming racism is the opposite of doing that.

I totally agree that Trump and Boris will be pointing left right and centre but I imagine that most people of the world will rightly be pointing at China as the culprit/causality.

I was diagnosed with the virus 4 weeks back, At understanding this I did not keep going to work, going out, doing things to benefit myself without care for others, I isolated myself, which was bad timing as it was just before the lockdown :(

If I had hidden the fact or acted without care for others you would rightly say that I was morally reprehensible - the latter is what the CCP did. As a result the global infections are upwards of 95% higher than they could have been if China had not acted as they did. So, yes, China have a big can to carry.

That is a big worry. A weakened and embarrassed Trump,an economic depression, a country to blame... history would call it a bad mix

Expectations matter. I don't expect China to do the right thing. I do expect my government to. They didn't. So point to China all you want, but it won't wash the blood from the hands of the US government.

Because people are stupid. Collectively rather than individually. They need a very obvious, key message, repeated over and over again, for it to have any impact.

Remember "Get Brexit Done", "Brexit Means Brexit", "Crooked Hillary", "Make America Great Again", "Drain The Swamp"... there's a reason you do. They say what it is on the tin.

"The origin of SARS-CoV-2 that causes the respiratory disease COVID-19 was the Wuhan area of China" doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

Basic politics. You have to say everything repeatedly to have a chance of the message getting through.

As for your first sentence, well, I'd love to live in an ideal world where people weren't stupid, but unfortunately a lot of them are.
But given your assumption that collectively “people are stupid” it is important that if you feel a catchy slogan is needed to force political change that it doesn’t entangle a large number of innocents in its net which “Chinese virus” clearly does..

”The Chinese communist party is bad” or variations on the theme isn’t that hard a concept to convey after all,
particularly as it uses the word communist.

However I am still unclear as to what actions you are wanting political support for?

”The Chinese communist party is bad” or variations on the theme isn’t that hard a concept to convey after all and doesn’t paint with anywhere near as broad a brush as “Chinese virus”

I want an international response to China and its' facilitation of wet markets. I can't see how that is unclear.

Also for me and most rational people "Chinese Virus" is "Virus that came from China", not "Virus that Chinese people give you". It is highlighting the origin; not that Chinese people exclusively give you it.

You are going to get the odd idiot who takes things as an excuse to be an idiot. Take your variation of "The Chinese communist party is bad" - do you really think that wouldn't see some people be targeting Chinese people too? Really though??

There's nothing wrong with "Chinese Virus" or "Wuhan Virus" - it's accurate. Much more accurate than Spanish Flu was actually if you know the history of it. Whereas "Kung Flu" obviously has racist connotations, despite how funny it bloody is!

I fully agree on the wet markets so why not concentrate on that so a “Ban wet markets“ message?

Disagree with your second bolded statement, there are huge ambiguities with the phrase “Chinese virus”. And yes I do think my variation would have been less harmful (although admittedly not fool proof which is why I’m not a big fan of sloganeering!).

The phrase “Communist party” has huge resonance in the US from the Cold War and referred to the leaders of the country rather than the general populous and thus would be far less likely to roll up a random Asian American in its wake.

The unprecedented decision, finalized late Monday, means that when recipients open the $1,200 paper checks the IRS is scheduled to begin sending to 70 million Americans in coming days, “President Donald J. Trump” will appear on the left side of the payment.
It will be the first time a president’s signature appears on an IRS disbursement, whether a routine refund or one of the handful of checks the government has issued to taxpayers in recent decades either to stimulate a down economy or share the dividends of a strong one.
