Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

He didn't give one flying f about the WHO before this started. This is all a way of shifting the blame to someone else, particularly someone foreign for his more xenophobic followers. The playbook isn't that complicated guys.

Of course it is. Doesn't mean he's also not completely correct too.

The WHO is completely ineffectual and China started this pandemic. Those are factual statements.

Gives billions to airlines and oil companies

Won't find an organisation that is fighting pandemics.
Not just covid 19, but polio, Ebola and others

I hope Bill Gates or someone steps in and funds it

To be honest, the individuals at the top of the WHO would have known this would happen when they took part in the cover-up. A good intentioned organisation, staffed by good people, but led by hideously corrupt people, much like the Red Cross.

I guess a broke clock is right twice a day. To me there is importance to motivation and when the motivation is to scapegoat and to a degree bigoted I'm not too bothered if there is some merit behind doing it. Personally I don't follow the WHO close enough to say whether they're worthwhile or not but again this seems to fit into Trump's wars on science and on paying world organizations that benefit us because they also benefit others. And those are to things I oppose.

While China did start the epidemic, the response from basically every country but a select few like NZ, South Korea and Germany has been so disgraceful that they really don't have room to point the finger. Everyone could have done better and also screwed it up.

Yep, they are to blame MORE than China for this.

Is there some kind of article about this?

I've been more concerned with what is actively going on around here, so I haven't read anything about what happened in China in awhile.

No the finger of blame lies squarely on China and China alone. There should be pushes for legal ramifications and reparations for what they've done.

Instead we get bleeding hearts screaming racism and doing their best to get them off the hook.

An inadequate response to a pandemic is nothing compared to the outright negligence from China that directly led to a pandemic. It was avoidable.

If what they're saying about people with no symptoms transmitting the disease is true, than it probably wasn't avoidable. Getting enough tests made to catch those people would have been nearly impossible. They would have spread it regardless of China's actions.

But my point that the showings from all the other countries make it clear that none of them would have handled it better. So lawsuits and reparations for this feels to me like Germany post WWI. Yeah they were wrong, but being unnecessarily harsh isn't the right idea either.

I mean the NYC outbreak traces to Italy and not China. So do they take blame as the middle man? They could have done better too right? This whole thing is pointless.

China directly caused this due to the proliferation of the wet market trade, which allowed the virus to transmit inter-species - despite many warnings it could happen.

I'm blaming them for creating the conditions for the virus to exist, not for the failure to contain it.

The wet market thing is concerning for sure. But things happen too. MERS is a similar disease (with thus far less serious mutations, which is just dumb luck) and had nothing to do with wet markets.

I find it odd that the hatred of Donald Trump makes certain people take the opposing view of his on any subject, even if it makes no sense to do so.

This is a prime example. Trump says China caused the virus, so anti Trump people will go out of their way to say they didn't.

Because political tribalism is a thing.

I find that post bizarre mate, really do. What China did was a textbook example of negligence and I can't fathom why people would argue otherwise.

Because I don't believe that every other country is completely safe from this thing happening to them. Maybe China is riskier, but no country is risk free. So we hold China accountable now, and 10 years from now the US starts some disease by accident and guess who comes looking to have their turn then?

I once heard this thing that goes something like, "treat others how you'd want to be treated," and personally I wouldn't want to be crapped on for something that I didn't have total control over. That's why I'm arguing otherwise.

Yes mate I'm aware.

You've also not addressed the part where MERS had nothing to do with these.

No, people criticized trump for blaming it on China and calling it the Chinese virus because apportioning blame during the crisis would and did just lead to the stigmatization of Asian Americans.
Wait till we have this thing under control before sucking up attention blaming others.
trump is looking for a scapegoat.
it’s not political tribalism to oppose trump, it’s common sense.
