Maybe I'm missing the point but he'd call him Boris because that's his commonly used name just like Eden was called and referred to as Anthony and not Robert.

Just like Brown was called Gordon and not James alongside similar uses with Callaghan, Wilson, Macmillan, Chamberlain and so on.

Johnson uses Alex as his real name though; thats what his close friends and family call him.

so it was a good thing the candidate and future PM procrastinated about going on Andrew Neil in another interview but then completely refused to do so ? Rather than ‘mastering his brief ‘ or having policies that stand up to questioning its better to run and hide ?

For me Johnson is pathetic a horrible , despicable liar little more at times than a man child at other times the worst kinds of dog whistling racist on yet other occasions his character summed up by plotting to actually assist in assaulting journalists but yet he’s proven untouchable. I’m not sure what the answer is , Johnson did get interviewed by Neil in the leadership contest and despite being savaged and Ill prepared it made not a jot of difference and neither did him not going On to Neil before the general Or even hiding in a fridge to avoid questions . I’m not sure anything matters any more to be fair these days , it’s all a bit depressing .

Agree with all of that, very well said. It is appropriate that it is in this thread as johnson supporters are trump supporters without the cartoonish accents, it doesn't matter what he says or how feeble and lazy his performance, he is their deity and they will follow the fat melted candle looking bigot to whatever end

Why is it wrong? Johnson has done loads of interviews, including with Neil, and has handled a lot of the scrutiny thanks to the persona he has created and him being an associate / friend / colleague of loads of the interviewers.

For exactly the reason someone else stated above. Neil’s previous interview with Johnson was the toughest that he’s ever done, and he didn’t come out of it looking remotely good

Getting him to make a fool out of himself is something he has literally done himself on loads of occasions, deliberately - it is what people expect "Boris" to do. Like Trump him saying or doing something outrageous, shagging around or telling an absolute whopper is something everyone expects him to do anyway, so its never shocking or damaging.

The only way Neil (or any interviewer) would ever shred him would be to get past the Boris act and start on who he actually is. Neil would never have done that (nor would any British political journalist that I can think of, even unfriendly ones).

To be honest I've been surprised at how defensive he's been of late and how he sort of backed away from criticism of China. This action is him back on the attack but as I say he's fully justified in halting funding of that terrible organisation.

To be honest I've been surprised at how defensive he's been of late and how he sort of backed away from criticism of China. This action is him back on the attack but as I say he's fully justified in halting funding of that terrible organisation.

He didn't give one flying f about the WHO before this started. This is all a way of shifting the blame to someone else, particularly someone foreign for his more xenophobic followers. The playbook isn't that complicated guys.
