Harry, that was you I replied to on the Graun, wasn't it? We're roughly on the same page re: Trump, about the incessant negative coverage being counter-productive.

I'm happy to also go with okay.

I agree these are bad comments: not diplomatic, not statesmanlike, immature and volatile too. Gianforte plead guilty, so Trump was wilfully stoking the fires there. The comment about shooting someone and nobody (from the pro-Trump faction) caring is accurate. [Poor language removed] Cheney already proved that (there were rumours at the time it was a deliberate shot after an argument took place).

No not me mate but I’m glad we basically agree on this on here .

No idea how anyone can read it without an ominous soundtrack in their head.

Internet contrarians like @dholliday ho-hum it...but in the next breathe holds everyone accountable to every word they type.

Words matter...innit Holliday?
I would have absolutely no problem with Trump criticising the media - if he laid out a counter-argument and/or proof/evidence that he was right, that would be absolutely fine.

But he doesn’t do that. A cynical person would say that’s because in the majority of cases he knows their criticism of him is accurate, but I couldn’t possibly comment.

Lashing out and calling them “fake news” and “the enemy of the people”, along with encouraging the likes of “lock her up”, praising people who assault members of the Press and comparing your political opponents to arsonists...

It’s almost hard to believe that one of his deranged followers decided to try to commit a mass assassination of his opponents (because that is exactly what yesterday was - however unlikely it may have been to work).

how likely is he to win another term?
Hillary was toxic to a lot of people in 2016, so that certainly contributed to the surreal results of that election.

If the Democrats get themselves together [realizing this is a huge IF] and put a respectable left-centrist candidate up, then I think Trump loses.

But if they go farther left to combat Trump, I think sadly there are enough people that hate "the left" enough to vote for Trump again.

America has too many uneducated rednecks to get themselves out of this mess. Trump can do and say whatever he likes now you’ve mobilised and empowered the right.

We are glad we backed China now you are starting to implode.
