Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

I cannot quote him verbatim but footage of the rally was on TV a half hour ago and that was certainly the gist of what he said.

America is in a dangerous place right now.

God knows what will happen when that caravan of asylum seekers reaches Tijuana or Nuevo Laredo.

I can see a battalion of Trumpites going down there like a latter day militia.

Yeah, that would be very ugly. Just yesterday, here in my state, we had a woman openly yell at a Guatemalan family at a restaurant about them being illegals, freeloaders, asking them for passports, etc., etc. Truly gross behavior that is unfortunately encouraged by our racist president.

..it’s fine to disagree but it’s not fine to be disagreeable.

was that meant for the profound sentence thread?

personally i find it disagreeable to share external posts from a founding member of the forum, and being critical of said posts all without at least tagging him here so he knows he's being talked about and can respond.

@TX Bill

..in this instance, I was thinking more of politicians, although it is a useful doctrine for GOT.

Asylum seekers I don't think is the right term for all of them.

There's a bit more to that mass of people than wanting to make it to the US.

There would be at least 10 embassies or consulates in Mexico that the legititmate asylum seekers in that group can attend and safely apply for asylum. And if they have kids, chances are they wouldn't be separated from them. Unlike what will happen should they make it to the border.

I am not denying there are some within the group with legitimate claims of asylum. However to grant the whole group as asylum seekers is naive.

Trump is right. He's saying reasonable things at the rally, asking for harmony and asking the media not to be so incessantly negative in their reporting of him & his administration (as that causes resentment and worse)...and what do the media do in response? They cover his speech negatively instead of focussing on it from a positive angle.

Here's a snippet The Guardian linked:

and here's their headline & standfirst using that clip:

Donald Trump attacks media 'hostility' after attempted pipe bombings - US president blames familiar scapegoat in speech after attempted bombings of political opponents

Honestly...let's try to be objective & fair here...sure there's loads we can criticise Trump (and especially his fans) for, but he's right, let's allow some positivity in once in a while. It will help the overall situation if we can manage that.

I think his initial speech was ok and I use that word deliberately, I think a couple of times in His Presidency his speeches havent been bad especially when he doesn’t go off piste but ultimately we’ve gotten to a place where the bare minimum is held up as greatness or as something to be applauded . Somebody has sent pipe bombs to politicians including the former president and former First Lady it’s not like condemning it is a controversial issue.

As for his rally I haven’t seen much of it yet but I think for him to still talk about civility and the media certainly lacks self awareness. It’s not long ago he’s spoken about liking someone who body slams a journalist, that he could shoot someone and nobody would care , called journalists in attendance “horrible horrendous people “ etc . Words have consequences, you say you’re a writer so you know that . I’ve read on numerous occasions that Trumps rhetoric could or even would lead to something like we’re seeing now so I’m afraid he carry’s some responsibility for it . The divisions must certainly have already been there but it’s been a long time since they’ve seemed this wide and that’s both sad and worrying .

Saw Rubio defending Trump by saying “criticising the media isn’t the same as inciting violence against them”

I wonder where Trump keeps all the spines his former GOP opponents have handed over to him?

Harry, that was you I replied to on the Graun, wasn't it? We're roughly on the same page re: Trump, about the incessant negative coverage being counter-productive.

I'm happy to also go with okay.

I agree these are bad comments: not diplomatic, not statesmanlike, immature and volatile too. Gianforte plead guilty, so Trump was wilfully stoking the fires there. The comment about shooting someone and nobody (from the pro-Trump faction) caring is accurate. Dick Cheney already proved that (there were rumours at the time it was a deliberate shot after an argument took place).
