Donald Trump for President Thread

It is a bit of a mess mate. Mostly self inflicted mind.

Absolutely.

When 'Mutti' made the throw-away comment to the girl that 'you can't all come in', her advisers panicked. She couldn't be seen to be a racist and a xenophobe (when in fact she'd been progressive) in a world where Politics was governed by PR. So we got to the point where, post-Syrian diaspora, Merkel felt it was the right thing to do to open borders, unregulated. You just cannot do this - you absorb the problems into a society ill-prepared to deal with them. Societies grow organically.

The core problem was that we created the Syrian crisis by helping to destabilize the region, and our quick-fix solution exacerbated it. We've gone for a quick fix nuclear option with Brexit and Trump.

I feel like you don't read my posts, mezz.

I thought we were bbq buddies.

I feel like I explained it fairly clearly without resorting to any of those buzzwords. The system has the vast majority of the electorate against it, one party ran a populist (who is a vile human being, and should never have had a shot) while the other party ran possibly the most hated woman in American that divided her base while unifying her opposition to an extent. This is a result of the DNC having no concept of what this country wants or needs and being wholly committed to the status quo based on the fundamental misunderstanding that no one would ever vote in the Republicans.

They underestimate the pain and suffering of the common stock of America and cater to people that are decided already. And then they get surprised when the beaten dog bites.

That doesn't excuse or eliminate the very, very real element of xenophobia, racism and misogyny on offer from the victorious camp. It just doesn't place the victory at it's feet. We still need to acknowledge it exists to prevent normalizing it.

We can do both. We can compromise. We can work to a common good and understanding and try and make things better. But to do it, we have to be honest and see our flaws, accept them, and work to correct them.

Oh, I know you're hip to what's happened, RB. You're here. I can sign off of about 98% of what you're expressing in the above. All that you have described exists, and it exists for all individuals in all societies to some degree or another. Even in Liverpool.

To use another contemporary meme, it's a matter of intersectionality. This applies to to all races and ethnicities. It's almost the only thing that is ever discussed in contemporary society, and will improve generationally if allowed to. Crackers and hillbillies are not God's only creatures with a flawed understanding of how we should all live together. (here, have some of this brisket. I'll send you a recipe - it's good for a rainy day when you can't fire up the smoker. It makes its own gravy! I add a little hot sauce.)

As far as Trump himself is concerned, let me explain it this way.

I feel as though I have been cleared after having tests done to confirm or deny the existence of stage three pancreatic cancer, only to discover that the process has resulted in some unfortunate plastic surgery. When I look in the mirror every morning, this is what I see.

The passage of time has taught me to count my blessings. Even if this is the worst thing to happen to the USA since the World Wars, as most seem to think here, it comes down to what we make of it. I had and have no faith in Clinton and the Democratic Party narrative to make this a better world. A lot of what was getting worse would have gotten worse more quickly. Plus, one more point. This started with the Tea Party, about seven years ago, people who met peacefully, cleaned up after themselves, and were slandered and vilified as racists in the press before being persecuted and suppressed by the IRS. After that, we get the orange spectre of Donald Trump, who fooled me as much as anyone else. I thought all along he was just "building the brand." Should Trump have been rejected by a similar small margin, what rough beast would we have had to confront next? This wasn't going to just go away.

If I have to carry around that gob with me, I'll keep my chin up and try to take some pride in myself anyway, irrespective of what others may think of me. The future's what you make of it.

Hardly racism, is it?

Both campaigns were build on an ideology of getting rid of people who weren't born in U.K./USA. That was their main agenda.

Anyone who voted for that isn't worth respecting, IMO.

What about all the good immigrants bring? For example, the NHS would collapse without overseas doctors.

It is interesting the age demographics in both campaigns that swung it. The younger, more tolerant generation have lost.

The only hope is that in the future, we won't see results like this as the bigoted generation die out.
Your post say's you're more bigoted than the people you aim your snide remark at

Interesting (and surprisingly) 42% of female voters went for Trump....

Can't really blame sexism then as some celebrities have done today....
