We can argue that they/we should spend our time changing the system but at the same time there's an immediate need that needs fulfilling.
That's a situation created by the lackadaisical nature of the lower middle/ middle classes who thought that merely by voting for centre-left policies was enough, while the political classes ignored the warnings and deny the chaos it has created, and now expect their idealogical policies to be the status quo.
Camoron's 'big society'. There were things wrong with the old system, but the problem's been exacerbated by the elite who tell us the poor are poor by choice.
They say the best way out of poverty is to work....The quality of jobs they have created has been abysmal. The amount of people chasing low paid work is horrendous. The conditions to qualify for the safety net of welfare has been increased to 'performing circus animal' status.
Meanwhile, the gap between richest & poorest is ever-increasing. The rich aren't interested in helping the poorest. The middle classes are too distracted by chasing the upper classes. The poorest have virtually been left to fend for themselves.
The rich and the corporates want us to work for (next to) nowt, and pay them rent instead of living in our own homes. They send out messages through the media that we're scum if we don't tug our forelock and vote for more of the same. It's become a scant few stops short of serfdom for a lot of people.
And all because people were too involved with themselves. If it doesn't affect them, why should they take note? They allowed the politicians and the right wing media to fill in the gaps in their knowledge about those in the lower social strata.
This vote, along with the referendum, is showing that now the lower-middle/middle classes are now starting to be affected (Albeit nowhere near the lower classes) and are slowly starting to take note and make their vote count.
