A two party state claiming to represent 318 million people is the issue, combined with a dysfunctional system which doesn't allow any change to occur.A bought and paid for political elite that represents only the deepest-pocketed has hollowed out America.
Populist demagoguery is the result, as the disenfranchised seek avenue, any (desperate) avenue to redress the damage wrought.
The whole system needs overhaul.
yep, you and I agree mate. For a country that proudly declares itself "the greatest democracy on earth", it ain't really living up to its billing. In fact, it's failing its electorate terribly on that premise.A two party state claiming to represent 318 million people is the issue, combined with a dysfunctional system which doesn't allow any change to occur.
Such a wide political spectrum exists, yet is only represented by two parties.yep, you and I agree mate. For a country that proudly declares itself "the greatest democracy on earth", it ain't really living up to its billing. In fact, it's failing its electorate terribly on that premise.

There could be another Tea Party coming up. Constitutionalists or such.
Oldest operating constitution in the world. It shows.
It structurally can't happen. Democrats outnumber Republicans. If the GOP splinters even further all of the pieces will wipe out.
Even the most conservative state in the union, Utah, can now be considered a competitive state. Because the conservative vote is split between Trump, Evan McMullin, and Gary Johnson.
Oh, and now another from a writer for People Magazine. At what point does his candidacy become untenable?
Immigration, on the whole, is a positive thing for a 1st world nation. People bemoan the work ethic of millenials (to which I say piffle, many of us work quite hard, and many more would had the economy not tanked while they were getting loaded up with student loan debt), but then complain about people coming in that are willing to work hard and get things done. But that's the red herring of immigration.
Immigration is a vital life blood for democracy and innovation. People and cultures have different ideas, and having various cultural ideas intermingle creates conflict. From that conflict we draw inspiration. So much of 'American' culture is just the intermingling of German, Chinese, Italian, Irish, Northern European, Indigenous, African, etc cultures distilled by time and trial. We need to accept large influxes of people precisely because our 'way of life' is flawed, but we will not change it without being confronted by alternatives...or better still amalgamations.
To think of the way the Right decry Mexican immigration upsets me greatly. I will accept that some Mexican immigrants may commit crimes, but the vast majority of them simply add a rich culture to our national tapestry. Mexican culture and people are absolutely wonderful and insightful and interesting. I don't see why we would want to ban them outside of some base fear of the 'other'.
Forgive my ignorance of American politics, but why are the Republics not the force they once were? Weren't they the natural party of government until recently?
Since the end of the 1960s, you've had 8 presidents, 5 of which have been Republican.
