The reason why is the ideological left/right debate was never settled. The right thought with the collapse of communism they won but the left just regrouped and went underground knowing they couldn't win the ideological debate so they focused on language policing and moving in immigrants who would vote for their policies because they don't know no better.

The whole system is screwed because the right have finally woke up to what is going on and both are playing for keeps.

Whilst your energy and other peoples energy is focused on arguments such as the above the overall ridiculous circus to which all contribute just rolls on. It's depressing the amount of brainpower and hours of study and debate that reasonably to highly intelligent people put in to just prove the other side wrong. Clowns one and all. Scarily stupid ones.

please dont laugh at me, i am very sensitive

thank you

I wasn't laughing "at" you.

I was laughing at your reply to Marty's post.

Which I thought was good and also rather funny.

Now, my solution to the mass defection of our industrial base to cheap, low wage countries would be to start paying the workers in China, India, Sri Lanka and other points east a decent wage.

Bring their wages up and suddenly these multi national corporations have no third world workers to exploit ergo there is no advantage to them uprooting their production lines from Liverpool or Detroit.

But hey, I am just an unreconstructed pinko/hippie/liberal boomer from the 60s and 70s when the thoughts of such Utopian scenarios were not treated with suspicion and bordering on heresy ;)

thank you, we really need smiley contexts...

Mandelson confirmed that was Labour's strategy. To 'rub the Right's nose in diversity'.

The same thing is happening to the US which is why it is becoming increasingly impossible for a conservative to get elected.

This is not something open to debate.
You do realise that the United States of America was founded by IMMIGRANTS. It's a bit hypocritical (and downright stupid) to suggest that the left brought immigration in to sway the vote in their favor.

And saying something isn't open to debate is a clear show of how precarious your argument is.

Immigration, on the whole, is a positive thing for a 1st world nation. People bemoan the work ethic of millenials (to which I say piffle, many of us work quite hard, and many more would had the economy not tanked while they were getting loaded up with student loan debt), but then complain about people coming in that are willing to work hard and get things done. But that's the red herring of immigration.

Immigration is a vital life blood for democracy and innovation. People and cultures have different ideas, and having various cultural ideas intermingle creates conflict. From that conflict we draw inspiration. So much of 'American' culture is just the intermingling of German, Chinese, Italian, Irish, Northern European, Indigenous, African, etc cultures distilled by time and trial. We need to accept large influxes of people precisely because our 'way of life' is flawed, but we will not change it without being confronted by alternatives...or better still amalgamations.

To think of the way the Right decry Mexican immigration upsets me greatly. I will accept that some Mexican immigrants may commit crimes, but the vast majority of them simply add a rich culture to our national tapestry. Mexican culture and people are absolutely wonderful and insightful and interesting. I don't see why we would want to ban them outside of some base fear of the 'other'.

I give you Exhibit A - taco trucks on every corner.

The argument is won then and there. Mexicans rule.

Please share a CREDIBLE source that supports this.

Otherwise, it's a slogan that people think becomes fact if they repeat it often enough. And you're smarter than that, @kithnou
That's making a major assumption mate. ;)
I'll be honest with you, the last few weeks have made me totally lose interest in this whole election. I've basically had enough of the pair of them. Any of them winning is unfortunately a bad message for those that believe good always prevails over evil in life. I'm not going to let them affect my disposition.
I'll watch the final "debate" for entertainment's sake and enjoy the election day for the spectacle it will be.
I'm over them.

Found the problem, I think. We live in a world of greys. This is no worse than many times in the past.

We just hear it louder, and have direct experience with it. And assume it's 'better' than it was (it is, it's just not good yet).

lol what a costume
