Does Moyes' reign look better with hindsight given the dismal performances of his successors?

Ha Ha Ha.

He's already killed one United.

How does that dinosaur continue to be liked with managers jobs?

Reputation was tarnished at united and some might argue he’s never fully recovered. He did a fantastic job for us on a meagre budget up until the last 18 months of his tenure. However I would have loved us to have had the money to spend that the two clowns Koeman/Walsh had in the summer of 2009. We had just finished 5th in the league and narrowly lost the cup final despite being without the spine of our team - Jagielka, Arteta and Yakubu. With these players at their peak I’m sure we could have had a really good chance of breaking the top 4 monopoly that existed at this time.

I'm pretty confident he would have gotten us in to the top four with the money Koeman had.

Moyes was fantastic for us. I can never understand the dislike people have for him.

The one thing you can say about the Moyes reign is, t was modestly successful.

He deserves utmost respect for transforming us on a shoestring.

But no trophies, only one final. That’s what he’ll be remember for. Before my time, was it Billy Bingham who never won a trophy?

He never gets remembered fondly, just for underachieving.

Look back now, it’s clear Moyes is yet to evolve with the times, and he’s in the same style of football Mark Hughes was successful with. Football has evolved, he has not.

They can't be compared, Moyes took over after years of complete rubbish and expectations were in the gutter, in his 2nd full season we ended up with around 37 points, the managers since him were given the boot during their 2nd full season. Moyes was given time and got us constantly 6th 7th 8th on what was basically a championship budget, by doing this Moyes got our expectations out of the gutter and because of this managers since haven't been granted the luxury of time.

He was brilliant for us for the situation we were in. He's still achieved our highest premier league finish despite spending next to nothing throughout his time with us and he clearly struggled to change his mindset away knife to a gun fight at united.

Pragmatic would be the best word I could use to describe his management with us. Some would say negative, boring football but I wasn't bored the season we finished 4th after just selling Rooney. He's been our most successful manager in the premier league era both on the pitch in terms of results but also off it in terms of the gems he would find in the transfer window. Not the school of science but left face it we were genuinely gash before he came in and played more like a rugby team than a football team.

He turned into a bit of a sour grape when he left but I think that was more to do with him not being able to change his ways of working. He'd been with us for such a long time, towed the line in terms of spending but still generally we were competitive in the league which was a complete role reversal from the relegation fodder we were before he came. Nothing against him personally, quite the opposite. He was class for us at that time but we need someone more progressive and a "modern" coach now which is exactly what we've got.

My resounding memory of him will be finishing 4th after just selling our best asset. Not winning a trophy, yeah sure you could say that but we haven't won one since he left either and have been through a hat full of managers and spent bags of cash. He's the one who achieved the so called 4th placed trophy which is surely our best achievement since 95? Shows how frigging bad we've had it really for the last 20+ years.

I think his reign does look good when you look at the performances of Martinez, Koemann and Allardyce. From 2007 to when he left when we mostly finished 5th to 8th. Also with the amount of money at his disposal he did very well, I think he undoubtedly bottled it in big games, but then again, the same problem exists nowadays. I think by and large opposition teams with the exception of the RS knew they were going to get a hard game when they played us especially at GP. I think we were unlucky to have the amount of injuries in the build up to the 2009 final, Yakubu, Anichebe, Arteta, Jags, Jo was cup tied. Playing against a full strength Chelsea side was always going to be difficult, when you score in the 1st minute. Obviously losing Lescott to Man City and the failure to really bring in a top class striker left us struggling a bit from 2010 to 2013 but we still managed to go back out the next week after a rubbish performance and give the opposition a hard game such as Man City in 2013. We've only won once at any of the big teams away from home sine he left and that was a season when everybody seemed to beat United at home. So really from a balanced point of view he dindn't do that badly.

That’s true. But I’m ambitious in life, and I want to be the best always. Being happy for a 4th place and nearly qualifying is not something I can be content with.

We’re making waves and hopefully when I grow older and have kids of my own, they’ll be able to share the same Grimace I have for Moyes final 6 years in charge as I do!

He deserves credit, absolutely deserves credit. His work in turning us roundwas magificent and I’m grateful. But he believed his hype, never changed his ways and football caught up and fooled him.

Dinosaur football = unsuccessful.

Whilst moyes was here I never once believed that we could go to a top 4 side and win and his record against them justified my thoughts.

After hearing his interview when he went to utd also justifies his attitude towards his thoughts on Everton, when he said “WHEN MY TEAM HAS COME HERE IN THE PAST, I USED TO SAY TO THEM LETS TRY AND GET OUT OF HERE ALIVE”
That is the reason I am glad he no longer manages my team NO AMBITION

Has to be said he did a good job with the resources he had. But him and Bill were a perfect match, uninspiring fantasists who continually played up to the tag of plucky little Everton.

Got tiresome very quickly for me... never once did I think I wish Moyes was back here lying down to the Big?? 6

My God why are we still talking about him?

He was what we needed when he was appointed. He had an eye for a bargain and got the team to play greater than the sum of their parts for several years.

He also played down expectations and was instrumental in creating the 'plucky little Everton' narrative.

He was found out in the FA Cup Final for me. He needed replacing then.

I think the biggest thing I was worried about when he left was that he had a decade long period of perceived success, and that would be big shoes to fill.

Martinez's first season blew him away with a fantastic scent of fresh air. Meanwhile, Moyes aged about 70 years in a few months with Death sending him to a sacking at Goodison Park.
