2025/26 David Moyes

I imagine they thought they were being pretty conservative with that, and he still failed.

We didn’t fail to qualify for Europe purely because of a poor run in , we also failed because throughout the season we lost more home games than we won, and dropped further points in too many draws.
This is a systemic failure revealing severe tactical shortcomings.
A rigid system , predicated on hard work and risk avoidance, set us up for an impressive away record but exposed us to failure at home.
We survived but failed to prosper.
That outcome shouldn’t be acceptable in any competitive sport , it denotes an aspirational failure and sport has to be aspirational to serve any purpose.

So if Moyes suddenly, after 30 years of management, decides to do something he's never once done in his career you would be fairly satisfied?
Well he’s done Europe before and had a decent style with that 09 team so I would be compromisingly satiated. The chances of him doing both next season are likely to be nil though as Moyes doesn’t work quite that fast

….I’m saying if he didn’t have the Kenwright baggage, would he be given a less grief for the job he’s done these last 16 months?
The two positions can coexist. 1) supporters probably are giving him less leeway due to first hand experience of him managing us before (not necessarily do with Kenwright) and 2) people are frustrated with what they have seen. One position is not mutually exclusive of the other.

It's weird that it's being presented as being unfair that a new man would be cut more slack than a man we have watched for fourteen years. It's almost as if having more data on an individual to make a decision about their ability to move us on as a club is a bad thing, for some people.

There’s a big portion of our fanbase that is just happy to survive as well, though. There’s threads on here from during the season with fans being concerned that we may have (shudder) qualified for Europe whilst we “aren’t ready” (whatever that means). I do think the tide is turning, though. I think the Sunderland game was a massive watershed. More and more are starting to realise that we don’t have to have Davey and the board peeing on us and telling us it’s raining. But there are some, like soldiers in the jungle years after WW2 ended, who are so petrified of life without Moyes that they just can’t take the leap.
Yup, so many of the fanbase are still fighting the last war. Hard to blame them when the commanding officer is the fella who led them into the jungle all those years ago. But he was only doing the bidding of El Presidente, whose mismanagement caused "the war" in the first place.

Viva la revolucion!

I don’t think the crowd turned on Moyes like they did Slot. Yes there’s a lot of discontent on here - quite rightly how the end of the season finished.
Whereas the Liverpool crowd, ex players and current ones were highly critical of Slot and his tactics. The media interest they generate meant that Slot was on shaky ground despite winning the league last year. Every phone without the kopites winning, was full of whinging kopites saying he had to go. I’m surprised Alonso didn’t get the job, but it’s ironic that the man who is in the frame - Iraola was not deemed the right man to take over from Moyes by many on here.
We have a lower bar to live up to (unfortunately)
I think a lot of the discontent with Moyes is because at the beginning of the season the majority of fans hoped Moyes 2.0 would be different and he was given significant goodwill. Especially as last season he played differently (by his own admission)
As this season progressed and he more and more reverted to type, both in his actions and words, the discontent towards him gathered speed.

Quite simply a 62 year old leopard isn’t changing its spots, it’s just taken slightly longer for that realisation to sink in for some.

Where he’s fortunate is the current media inc ex players are by and large friendly toward him and don’t see us as deserving of the highest levels of scrutiny. It’s been deemed 14th -6th being all we should aspire to, 6th - 7th being considered a particularly good effort - if not a minor miracle 🙁
