2025/26 David Moyes

TBH.
I think @Eggs has probably forgotten more about football than most of us will ever know.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I think it would serve us all well to realise their are others with a different but equally valid opinion.

This coming from someone who wanted Iraola as our manager next season.
We should remember however that with seven or eight games to go I think there were relatively few complaints about the manager.
It was the collapse in the last number of games that got the alarm bells ringing.
So should no one reply to his posts putting there reasons/argument across?

Especially when he’s got the local media in his pocket coming out to bat for him at any given opportunity. The majority of Echo reporters just hang on ‘Prenno’s’ every word because he used to be their boss. Got to give credit to Joe Thomas for trying to dig deeper with Moyes the other week but Moyes didn’t like it one bit.
I do wonder if that’s the purpose of media work sometimes for coaches / managers in general. Keep working with the media and you become one of them so keep them onside with you so are reported favourably upon when things get tough in your management role (probably too strategic but possible)

The echo and the rest the "local" media (that aren't truly local at all) has always been the enemy of the club. They exist to sell themselves to the RS and tourists (all kopites are tourists but not all tourists are kopites!) so have no interest in producing real stories that have journalistic integrity.

I know you are supportive of him getting at least another year as coach but what are your metrics for success? What do you think are realistic targets? What would would he have to fail to do that would change your mind?

…tbh, that’s a little bit of a wind up. I have to admit to being a little mischievous, largely to balance things up.

I’ve always thought the contract length is interesting and do wonder whether it’s as much as both parties want. I’m genuinely not certain if Moyes wants to be Manager beyond that point. I’m ambivalent on that, except it would mean we’re doing well if it is offered.

I do think he’s in a precarious position, certainly the knives are out if we don’t start well but I have it in mind that it’s similarly not taking much to see us be centrally involved in those European spots. Personally, I want us to go and be a threat playing away at top teams. Sadly, our home form let us down against teams we should’ve been beating.

Critical Success Factors; we need to progress into a European spot and have decent cup runs. I don’t think he’ll have much wiggle room with fans, the summer window is a dependency and I fear for him without a decent start.

From his perspective, he needs to understand it’s a long season and utilise the players he trusts. I don’t think he did that and I fear that’s in his DNA. Regardless, I think it’s likely Moyes won’t be in post next season, even if we do hit those CSFs.

Should be banned. Friggin disgrace.

Speaking of being mischievous, if we were bottom half table and out of the league cup early would you sack him over the Xmas period?

The story goes that TFG only actually wanted him for 18 months (So he would have been gone now essentially) but he insisted on 30 months (2 1/2 years) I'm not sure how true that all is, be interesting to see the transfer funds this summer. Just one of those things I have seen mentioned a couple of times.

Good post, Eggs. Regarding the summer window I do wonder if they’ll try pushing through a transfer or two through before the World Cup to try and calm the fanbase down (probably wishful thinking on my part) but I imagine a few shiny new signings would placate some people.

I’d like cup runs but if in the end he’d progressed to a European place AND developed to an extent a style of play resulting in some of the other key performance metrics e.g. possession, GA, XGA than I’d be fairly satisfied. I’d call them indicative CSFs.

The difficulty he now has (in some supporters eyes), is that progress in a season isn’t linnear so if he falls significantly behind the run rate to get into a European position (for example has a poor start to the season) the knives will be out. This puts pressure on him and the board. This could force a decision at a time when managerial options are short which is why saying goodbye this summer for me is the right choice.

This summer will have to be better in terms of recruitment than last, and he’ll have to have a reasonable start to the season otherwise he’ll be a dead man walking. We could potentially end where we were when the likes of Lampard and Dyche left (both were in and around the Jan transfer window). I think that the way the last half a season went, this is a very real possibility, if not probability.

I don’t think the crowd turned on Moyes like they did Slot. Yes there’s a lot of discontent on here - quite rightly how the end of the season finished.
Whereas the Liverpool crowd, ex players and current ones were highly critical of Slot and his tactics. The media interest they generate meant that Slot was on shaky ground despite winning the league last year. Every phone without the kopites winning, was full of whinging kopites saying he had to go. I’m surprised Alonso didn’t get the job, but it’s ironic that the man who is in the frame - Iraola was not deemed the right man to take over from Moyes by many on here.

We can’t seem to decide on George and we had him for 6 months! Not a great sign for being early and decisive tbh
