2025/26 David Moyes

Was the game v Spurs rigged?

here is a theory, Moyes wanted West Ham to go down 2 reasons
1 the way he got to leave them their fans couldn't wait for him to go
2 he now has the pick of their players

Going back to the spurs game, why did he start Barry, knowing he will offer nothing going forward?
this gave Spurs the chance to play further up the pitch
2 why did he take to the 83rd minute to bring Beto on, he never leaves subs that late?
3 The opening minute of the game we got a corner, James Garner has been taking good corners all season, a chance to put them right under pressure, no he passes backwards to KDH and it comes to nothing.
4 we had no shots all game until George in the 88th minute, this against a team fighting for their lives.

if it was not rigged and that was a genuine performance, then Moyes needs booting into touch
I'm asked several times even in the match thread if the game was fixed. The lack of ideas desire passing back and no real threat losing 1 null . Yes it's possible Moyes had no intention of save WH

As I said, I don't want to go too far off topic so won't carry on after this but yeah I don't think one individual being ahead of their time etc really means a lot with this type of thing. A lot of serious track and field fans would tell you that high jumpers like Barshim and Bondarenko jumped higher than Sotomayor's world record numerous times, but never did it with the bar set at the WR height so it obviously isn't recorded, but even if you ignore that it's hard to argue against records in general being broken as time passes and the exception just proves the rule really.

In many ways it's a pointless discussion because there's no way of ever proving it either way. For me the argument you're making sounds very similar to the old tropes that the 'best' World Cup is always the one that takes place closest to your 10th birthday and the clubs you perceive as being 'big' are the ones which were successful when you first became interested in football, but maybe you're right and football peaked when Alan Wright, Steve Stone and Rob Lee made the PFA team of the year, we'll never know.
I'd definitely argue that we've gone past the point of diminishing returns in regard to hyper-professionalisation. For me, the combination of sports science and the room for individual expression that makes football unique among team sports - this is why it's always been so much more engaging than the rest, in my opinion - peaked around the turn of the century before starting to decline somewhere between 2015-2020.

Now, with data analytics seeping into every facet of the game and players being forced into increasingly systematised approaches, I think it's undeniable that the technical level has dropped significantly. Another factor recently has been the addition of more subs, which is enabling the crutch of sending more and more players out to run around like lunatics before replacing them with another brainless sprinter.

PSG are the only current team that look truly top level to me, but even they could soon find themselves in a similar position to City, who I think have come to discover that the equivalents of de Bruyne, David Silva, Yaya Toure and Kompany aren't being produced anymore.

well no mate as “backs to the wall n that”

our fans would of bailed us out
I'm honestly not sure with this season mate. All the times we've rallied around the team and dragged them over the line we've been in the same position all season and found a tiny bit of form at the busy end of the season. This would've been the other way around. Our collapse has come at the worst possible time. Maybe you're right that we'd have dragged the team over the line again but imo that's still unbelievably unacceptable. Everton Football Club should not be in this position and its a reflection on Moyes that we are.

Yeah it definetly could have been rigged. Better the comfort of a spurious and unfounded conspiracy theory than the brutal truth. Little by little under the Moyes, we have truly become that [Poor language removed].

It would make my summer to see Davy boy alongside his mates Pardew , Allardyce and Pardew on the Uber Eats Ad ......you've definitely "Done enough" David - time to join your fellow dinosaurs and retire gracefully
It won’t when the advert pops up on tv at half time when he’s still our manager and we’re 3-0 down to Hull!
