2025/26 David Moyes

Have to admit I haven't enjoyed his smug press conferences of late, and those comments about not understanding why fans are frustrated was very jarring.

He knows full well that he should not have stuck with that back four for 7 games straight, but it contains players who, in his mind, possess incredibly invaluable Premier League experience and simply cannot be replaced unless it's by Branthwaite.

We've been so lucky with injuries this season compared to most other clubs. His comments about needing players are simply laughable:

HE chose signing Dibling over another striker, or a winger ready to start games.

HE chose Röhl when we already had Garner and Gueye as key starters, with Iroegbunam a somewhat capable stand in, and we desperately needed a right back.

HE used £30 million to bring a completely unproven Barry to Everton and not even go for a third striker on loan — even Callum Wilson would have been a massive improvement for us this season.

HE brought in a £10 million left back then immediately deemed him nowhere near good enough.

Unless one of the following happens, we know for sure the owners are going to end up taking us back to relegation fighting days sooner than we thought:

1. Moyes is replaced asap as the owners deem the performance not acceptable this season
2. Moyes is given massive amounts of money to spend this summer

Given neither of those two things will happen and he'll get an extension and spend about £60 million net, next season is also going to be one to forget and we could easily be dragged further back which is basically a guaranteed relegation fight.

Summed up perfectly in one word

The major thing that concerns me is that since the AFCON he has only strengthened the argument that he is tactically stubborn, will flog the 13 players he trusts, and will not under any circumstances play those players who he doesn’t like for whatever reason. They really should be asking Glasner or nipple circumference what their asking price is, and show some real appetite for success
'Nipple circumference'? 😆

The flip side of your logic is that there's no risk sticking with Moyes. Let's just take a step back and look what he did at West Ham in the cold hard light of day. He spent over £500 million and left an ageing, unbalanced squad, lacking a centre forward, and a squad on high wages. He had multiple big money signings who didn't work out. That's the risk in sticking with Moyes, he could ultimately leave us in a worse position in the medium term. Effectively because of Thelwell and Purdys working miracles we had a functional squad, on fairly low wages that we could build on when we had money to spend. In short they gave us a financial reset and a platform to build on. What happened then is Moyes blew £120m plus and didn't improve the team. The risk now is that we let him do exactly the same this summer. If we do then the stable financial platform we had to build on will have been wasted by Moyes and the club. That's a clear risk and one I wouldn't be taking.

See I disagree with a bit of this, we spent £113m in the summer, it wasn’t all about improving the team, it was about having a squad in the first place. Losing 12 players last summer was a massive loss to any squad. Some players weren’t big loses but some where going into the new season.

I wouldn’t say the squad was in a great shape in any means that you could add some players in the summer and improve massively in one window.

We had one goal keeper going into this summer, we had to sign two keepers in the summer.
The full backs situation was dire going into this season - Coleman, Patterson and Mykolenko were the 3 full backs on the books starting pre season. Coleman should have retired, Patterson isn’t good enough, Mykolenko isn’t good enough.
Centre backs Tarkowski, Branthwaite and Keane. Had to offer Keane a new deal cos we didn’t have a great deal of money to spend to get someone better in.
Centre midfielders, we had Garner, Gana and Tim as options in pre season.
Wingers - N’Diaye and McNeil going into this season with. McNeil is a decent player for the PL but he isn’t going to get us up the table.
CF - we had Beto and that was it. He works hard but apart from that he is pony.

The summer recruitment was key last summer and we didn’t get it right.

We made 8 permanent signings last summer in
Alcarez
Barfy
Aznou
Tavers
King
Dewsbury-Hall
Dibling
And some kid from Charlton.

We loaned in
Grealish
George
Rohl

This we had a good squad to build on is a load of rubbish. Spending £113m in the summer wasn’t enough and won’t be enough again this summer.

The CEO and manager are definitely on the same wavelength. They've both come out and said we weren't in a relegation battle from Christmas onwards which is good. They're both "happily disappointed" with how things have turned out.

I'm assuming for Kinnear to come out with that waffle, that he'd had the go ahead from his bosses so they must be happily dissatisfied too.
They seem on the same page in that regard then. This football club needs a whole new mentality reset, not just from the board, owners, players and manger but from the fans too.

He's an upmarket Dyche. That's all he's ever been.

Sam Allardyce was sacked for finishing eighth. Yeah, we had a better squad, but we were in the relegation zone losing 4-1 at Southampton the weekend before he arrived. There was zero talk of stability when Sam has us safe in a month, drawing a derby at Anfield in the process. He was gone at season's end.

I don't recall too many on here saying we should have kept him. Indeed, did the arrival of Marco Silva make us more unstable the following season? Nope.

Stability is now a by-word for stagnation and excuses. It's risk-aversion and lack of ambition writ large.
