2025/26 David Moyes

Dont think thats entirely true. They got in Lopetegui who, lets faces it we all think is better than Moyes, under the fallacy that he'll have funds. He didn't get them and left.

Brought in Potter who again couldn't attract or got players in to play his style which didn't fit the squad he had.

Then got Nuno in very late to change things.

Fundamentally Moyes may have left a squad of a certain age but the club never backed the manager that came after.

In almost 20 years of managing in the PL league David Moyes wins 11-12 games per season that's the average of this time line (That's 33-36 points) then add in say 10-12 draws that's about 46-48 points of average of his entire career.
He's an upmarket Dyche. That's all he's ever been.

Sam Allardyce was sacked for finishing eighth. Yeah, we had a better squad, but we were in the relegation zone losing 4-1 at Southampton the weekend before he arrived. There was zero talk of stability when Sam has us safe in a month, drawing a derby at Anfield in the process. He was gone at season's end.

I don't recall too many on here saying we should have kept him. Indeed, did the arrival of Marco Silva make us more unstable the following season? Nope.

Stability is now a by-word for stagnation and excuses. It's risk-aversion and lack of ambition writ large.

Know your place, Evertonians.

There is always a risk. What we do know, however, is there is no future with Moyes. We have an obligation to change.

So is Moyes .
Success isn’t defined by surviving, that’s just slow motion failure.
Martinez in his first season matched Moyes but did it by playing attacking exhilarating and intelligent football.
Silva also coached better football , and I would have preferred we had held our nerve with him.
We have seen enough of Moyes to be able to predict how next season will unfold with a reasonable degree of accuracy.
It will be much the same as this season, the football will continue to be poor overall and our finishing position will be around mid table.
For the price of admission now , we should expect better than continuing irrelevance.
The risk for ownership is we end up like Blackburn Leicester or Leeds for 20 years, to name but a few.

All had more recent success all went out EPL, some may not even continue to exist!

First time in several seasons we’ve been nowhere near relegation!

Palace flirted with relegation for much of the season only pulled away recently, let’s see how these other clubs cope.

At least one of them will be near relegation and Europe will be the blame.

I think there is zero chance he is removed in this off-season, because the CEO and ownership (I presume, who would know given their relentless silence) are happy with his performance and the team’s trajectory.

So what’s the best case scenario for us going forward? If he’s staying, he’ll probably sign another contract adding at least another year on. And he will continue to build for the duration of that contract and absolutely no further.

Given I think we all know what the transfer targets are going to look like this summer, our only real hope is that he does manage to jag Europe next season (which shouldn’t be hard, look at where those places went this season) and then some sort of leadership transition plan is put in place for the end of his contract. He gets to lead us in Europe for a season and feel important, and maybe have a dip at a trophy if it’s the conference, while leaving with his ego in tact.

That’s the most glass-half-full I can be. That his short-termism works to such a degree that he allows himself an exit while on a high.

The far more likely alternative? This again. Nothingness. With nothing to build from. So when the next manager comes, probably in the middle of a relegation-threatened season, they’re starting from rock bottom. You know, kinda like West Ham.
I doubt they give him a new deal that talk has gone very very quite

In 2026 we have played 19 games with 5 wins (only 2 of them home wins), 6 draws and 8 losses. That is not improvement or even stagnation, it is regression and on a par with Dyche and Lampard.

Now is definitely the time to change direction and Manager.

Context considered, it's much worse.

It's showing in our survey results compared to previous managers.

We made £80m+ in windows under Dyche. We couldn't spend a bean until we'd made profit so our shortlist was tiny - hence the likes of Beto who was available days before window closed for £0 upfront. Moyes just dropped a club record amount, with big fees on players who never got a sniff.

And for what? 1 place lower and less wins in a season than Sean Dyche's only full season.

If Moyes had come in, had to make a profit on teams that were struggling before him then he'd be getting plaudits now.

For those who want him to stay, what's the plan, do we pick up other clubs' cast offs or do we continue to commit to recruiting young? @matty1878 @JobForTheMoyes

The same people arguing the squad isn't good enough can't then turn around and back Moyes to go out and sign players aged 30 and above, because if that's the route we take, you lose the right to complain about squad quality ever again. Signing older players will inevitably put us in the same position West Ham found themselves in post-Moyes, needing a full rebuild.

Considering he didn’t pay a penny for anyone over the age of 29 this season maybe we wait until he does before flapping.

Allardyce wasn’t sacked cos we finished 8th. He was sacked because the fans were very vocal about wanting him out. Moshiri and co listened and that’s why he was ultimately sacked.

Ok. He was way more disappointed in the seasons finish in the official club interview. The main press conference his defensiveness made him push back too much on the fact it was crap.

But there is a very strong whiff of “If we’d have won all those games that we lost we’d be much better off.” Same can be said for Wolves, Burnley and West Ham.

Never say that. Fans can’t stand it and it only ever comes across as self preservation.

So why are we not very vocal today?

We certainly should be. Because this is way worse than Allardyce.
Good point. Maybe TFG and the people in power are happy with the current season. They don’t seem to be reactionary unlike Moshiri and co.

To be fair, after the Chelsea game, the season went down hill at a rapid pace and that was on Moyes. Prior to that, imo, TFG and board would have been made up with how the season was going. The past 7 weeks have been on par with some of the worst times watching Everton and for me, and others it’s on Moyes. His ego failed Everton and the fans these past few weeks.
