2025/26 David Moyes

It also makes me think that Everton dodged a huge bullet when Pereira was begging for the Everton job on Sky Sports. His record in the premier league this season is 10 games at Wolves (8 defeats and 2 draws) and 2 games at Nottingham Forest (2 defeats). That must be up there with the worst record in a season of all time in the premier league. Whilst Lampard struggled on the whole and by the end was out of his depth, it was a terribly difficult job at that time and he had been left in a tough spot by the former manager who had killed morale within the club. He still engineered home wins against Chelsea and Manchester United and did enough to avoid the drop. I genuinely think we would have got relegated under Pereira as I can't imagine him building any sort of rapport with the club or fans when you see how a very competent manager in Marco Silva was treated/regarded.

Yep. They read out his prem stats the other day during a game. Disastrous would be to kind. I cant really recall at the time on here what the split was on people wanting him. But his track record looks a red flag in that he tends to not stay anywhere long.

The manager isn't holding us back though. Give h a champions league budget and squad and let's see how he performs.

A mod just PMd me and said they’re tracking the accounts of those who were megamouth on here after Everton defeats but are viewing this thread silently now. They said they’re planning something to mark their cowardice but I just find it all a laugh really.
Well i know where one of them is, he's spent the night tracking unregistered birthdays..

He had one at Man Utd and got sacked in his first season.
To be fair from memory he wanted Bale and Fabregas. They went all out for them, didn't sign them and he ended up signing Fellaini for around £10 million more than they needed to as they missed the deadline for a lower fee! I think he signed Mata in January as well who had a good a career at Utd and that was pretty much it? He obviously failed at United but it wasn't due to a signing a load of duds as he didn't actually spend much money.

Let's be a bit fair on that Ferguson worked miracles winning the league with that team he left, Moyes had the poison chalice following a Man United legend who'd been there years. Moyes was never given the time to succeed and behind the scenes Moyes was never welcome when he arrived, Giggs and Co saw to that, well that's my take on it anyway.

He was following, who is arguably the most successful manager to ever preform in the English League.
He had big shoes to fill. He was destined to fail, as the odds were stacked against him.
Indeed.

Inheriting the champions of England, at a club widely regarded as the richest in the world with an unmatched budget, with a team packed to the gills with players who had been assembled at a cost of hundreds of millions, really was an impossible task. They were lucky he managed to get them to 7th tbf.

Just for comparison, these were his stats while he was there:

They weren’t bad, just not good enough for the mighty United!

Context is everything. He inherited a team that had just won the league, but largely in decline. He took over from Man U’s best ever manager, it was doomed to failure, see every manager that has ever followed a club legend.

Regardless of that, he had a better win percentage than any manager there since SAF until Carrick. Their sense of entitlement at the time meant he would never succeed.

His biggest failures were Sunderland and his Spanish adventure, other than that he’s been perfectly adequate, exactly what Everton needed, given the last few years.

Can he take us to the next level? Well he can get us to the lower levels of Europe and possibly into better cup runs, but he won’t win the League and he won’t get us Champions League football.

So given the start point of this tenure, he’s doing fine - a vague possibility of Europe when previously we were haunted by relegation struggles. Let him get us to the Europa Conference and then plan for a change at the end of his current contract.

To continually harangue him seems somewhat deranged and ill-advised, progress is there for everyone to see. Learn a little patience - I know 30 years, blah, blah, blah - but in a shorter term view, things are on the up, support the guy.

I kind of agree with you, it was just such an open goal, I had to say it.

He still spent money on Fellaini though. He was good for us but never a player who should be in a team aiming for the title. I can't remember who else he bought tbh.

The only thing I really remember about his time there apart from that Fulham game where they attempted something like 168 crosses is that rumour about I'm telling Vidic to watch videos of Jags. I mean I love Jags but that is mad

He’s just spent £100m plus & most of the money is sat on the bench. Why would anyone with common sense give him more money to spend.

Also remember it was his choice not to buy full backs.
If anything I've noticed Moyes performs better when his funds are limited , when he has access to an extensive budget it ends up heaping pressure on him and buys players that typically don't have longevity at a higher cost.
