2025/26 David Moyes

Yeah, that's the most reasonable shout. They haven't been objectively good, but at least they've showed a bit of fight here and there (albeit usually once the horse has bolted). I was very surprised at how little they actually tried to do last night.

Don't get me wrong, like, you can only beat what's in front of you but I wouldn't be declaring a definitive end to the Hilly Dicko Hoodoo just yet.

They've lost a fair few games this season by the odd goal. They've been competetive but not good enough.
I think the margin is getting shorter for teams you can count on as guarenteed to be a safety net. Two who came up last season look safe. If Wolves had dumped Pereira earlier then who knows. They're nowhere near the Wolves of the start of the season.
Take your eye off the ball like Spurs have and you can get caught out now.

I think it’s worth remembering that only 3 games ago the manager was playing the best CB in Branthwaite at left back and the best central midfielder and probably player of the year so far, James Garner, at right back. He was also playing Harrison Armstrong in a wide midfield role. Great win against Newcastle, routine and comfortable win last night with the 2 best central players back in the spine of the team.

It’s ok to question when Moyes does very silly things that he didn’t need to do.

Exactly, mate.

As long as it’s within reason. It’s not as if Moyes is beyond reproach.

It also makes me think that Everton dodged a huge bullet when Pereira was begging for the Everton job on Sky Sports. His record in the premier league this season is 10 games at Wolves (8 defeats and 2 draws) and 2 games at Nottingham Forest (2 defeats). That must be up there with the worst record in a season of all time in the premier league. Whilst Lampard struggled on the whole and by the end was out of his depth, it was a terribly difficult job at that time and he had been left in a tough spot by the former manager who had killed morale within the club. He still engineered home wins against Chelsea and Manchester United and did enough to avoid the drop. I genuinely think we would have got relegated under Pereira as I can't imagine him building any sort of rapport with the club or fans when you see how a very competent manager in Marco Silva was treated/regarded.

Why are we still going on about Dyche mate? As you know, I backed him, and I'm of the opinion that he deserves credit for the 'rescue job' he did. However, his goose was cooked by the end. He showed he had absolutely no other way to work than survival mode. He tried for a little bit at the start of his last season. He went more attacking, watched us concede a load of goals and then just decided that he had to go back to survival mode and basically admitted he had nothing else to offer.

There was some credible draws in his last season, but ultimately, it was January 9th when he went and we'd won 3 league games: Palace & Wolves at home, and Ipswich away. I'm all for backing managers, and I like to think I give them all a fair crack of the whip, but even I'd had enough of him by then.

As a slight aside, I've also lost a ton of respect for him after listenng to him on some podcast or other. When the points deduction came up, he said something like 'so I got a call to tell me we'd been docked the 10 points. I couldn't believe it, I knew absolutely nothing about it'... Really Sean? It was pretty well documented, and was certainly a hot topic amongst the fanbase.

You have no idea regarding the fitness level of the players so you're not in a position to comment on selection.

Its all about opinions as i thought he got the branthwaite/garner selection correct against United. He set up a team he thought could win that game in particular as he saw them more of a threat. Garner has played in central midfield when Everton have been well beaten at home. On more than once occasion.
I quite liked what he did against United. Everton looked as competetive in that home game as they did in the previous ones.

Crap team selection and hideously unambitious use of subs against the current worst team in the league, playing worse than I can recall seeing them play at any other point this season.

We won at a canter, though, so the man can have his flowers. 6pts from 6 and almost 2 weeks off Everton altogether is the closest to bliss it gets round these parts, so I defo CBA moaning about him until the next abject home performance.

Fully agree. The Bournemouth debacle at home last season was the watershed moment really. We were superb for 75 minutes and it should have been 4 or 5 nil by that point. But his reluctance to make obvious substitutions (replace a gassed Iroegbunam after an excellent performance with another centre mid and put on a 6'6 defender in O'Brien to counter the aerial threat that Bournemouth were just showing) and we most likely cruise to a very impressive home win and who knows what happens thereafter. Conversely, he failed to be proactive with obvious subs, the team absolutely lost the plot under unnecessary pressure and somehow lost 3-2 from 2-0. He did a fantastic job during the points deduction and the season before - he has to be given credit for that but last season was immensely disappointing and the writing was on the wall after how he set up in the final few games when safe after the point deduction. I realised then that he was a limited manager but a specialist at fire fighting.
