2025/26 David Moyes

Moyes played him at CB (out of position), Pellegrini instantly played him as a midfielder and didn't do anything else even once, letting him establish himself as a pivotal player in the team/league (and gave him captaincy).

If Moyes had come back in and stuck the best young midfielder in the country as a centre back I think he'd be rightly lynched.

I have a feeling that part of the Moyes opinion is about the personality of the person.

I have seen a few posts stating but 'what if we finish 14th'?, 'what if the away form drops?'. Well, 'what if the away form doesn't drop and we start to pick up more points at home?', 'what if it swings a little bit in favour of home form but still picking up a good number of points away?', what if we finish 8th or above?'. What if?, what if?, what if?

The cliche how full or empty the glass is, I suppose.

It is defeatist argument, which ironically is their main argument against Moyes. That he is too negative, he talks us down, etc.

At this moment in time there are not many valid reasons to say that he has to be gone in the summer. We will see at the end of the season how this changes.

We are 8th, we are the same number of points from 6th as we are to 14th. It is a congested table so it could go either way, but we are currently on the right side of the equation, so a bit of positive thinking is not far from being OK.

I am certainly not a Moyesiah type person but I do like him, he has some big flaws, but at this present time he is a good person to have at the helm and our league position shows it to be true.
A lot of good points and I do want Moyes gone, because nothing changes for me long term, it will be constantly, tight boring games, set up for 0-0 and hoping to knick something, score
First and try and hold, occasionally you get a game like Saturday, but not that often. I think
On stats we have been out performing our expected points away from home and we also have 3 very tough home game out of the 5. And arguably have the toughest run of teams around and us.

Also it’s the fact he wasn’t the man TFG wouhdha e gone for in the summer. And im
Not sure his policy in the transfer market lines up with what the club want to do long term.

I for one, can’t wait for to get rid of Moyes and return to managers leaving every season, lower league finishes and the threat of relegation each season.

We have put up with this stability and “top half trophy” mindset long enough.
Kenwright and moshiri don’t run the club anymore, look at Roma, yes it was TFG’s first club and they made a few mistakes, but they have consistently challenged for the champions league places.

We’ve had the threat of
Relegation about 4 or 5 times at the most in 45yrs

The soul and ambition has been sucked out of the club over the past decade.

Our big days out are getting to the ground early to cheer the team bus in as we battle to keep our premier league status.

We exist just to stay in the Premier League and do nothing else. If you dare to want more you get fans saying 'Be careful what you wish for'

UTFT!!
The same fans who want Moyes the get a new deal are the same ones who thought dyche was Doing a good job and nobody would have done better.

City went out and bought Guehi and Semenyo to try and win a title. Villa brought in Abraham and Luiz to try and claim champions league spots.

Not comparing us to them, mainly comparing the objectives and goals. An attacking fullback or pace in the side could make or break 3 points to get Europe.

Put it this way, if we were 4th at this point in the season do you think the club would find a player if we needed one in January? Its intention.
City operate in a different market to Everton. 1) Guehi and Semenyo would never have joined Everton, 2) City are able to immediately cover release clauses/pay fees due to their position within the game. Both of these signings are utterly irrelevant in respect to Everton's dealings.

Villa are absolutely hamstrung financially due to PSR after their massive overspend last season in their attempt to double down on CL qualification. They had to sell Malen and replaced him with Abraham. Luiz was a necessity as they've lost their three first choice midfielders (Kamara, McGinn & Tielemans) and were left with Bogarde, Barkley and an unfit Onana as their only options.

Look at the actual transfers into the Premier League in January, who do you think Everton should have signed at the agreed fees?

Clubs don't want to sell during a key point of the season. Clubs are reticent to pay inflated fees.

Yeah, like he's not playing Armstrong and Branthwaite out of position, as they played there for the academy probably and "sometimes young players have to play out of position" or something daft.
So you think Armstrong should be starting in central midfielder for us?🤣🤣🤣🤣 8th in the table by the way. 7 away wins in a row. Club record.

The frustration is that Moyes has cracked the hard bit of consistently winning games away from home yet can’t adapt his system or players at home to really make it count. And that’s what you pay Managers for, to find the solutions and enact them to improve.

We have improved from last year. The inconsistency is what you’d expect from a team in transition. Yet because of the away mastery it’s making the home failures all the more frustrating.

I think the concern ie that a lot of the away results have been quite small margins this year. Not that there's anything wrong with that, and we are allowed to have a good goalkeeper as well. But a little bit of bad luck or one moment can change the result and lose you two points.

Going forward we will really need to be better at home if we want to be consistently better. You need to be able to rely on decent hone form in case you have a bad 3 or 4 games away - and that can happen to really good teams.

We need to find a way to play for more than 45 minutes at home and need to find a way to create far more chances. The away record is great right now but we just haven't worked it out at home at all.
Needs a thread exploring why we're so bad at home. Tactics or the presence of THE FANS.

Come on Chico, this is meat and drink for you!

Which I addressed in the post. Wasn't comparing the clubs, I was comparing the goals.

What is our goal? If we were in Villa's position, do you think we'd find players or not?

The players are out there, if the club really wants them they'd find them to achieve a goal. We clearly didn't want to in order to help reach a goal. So losing out on Europe won't be too disappointing.

But to say we couldn't get players in isn't correct IMO.
