2025/26 David Moyes

My bad…I meant Spurs😳.
And why is ‘pumped’ exaggerated? That’s exactly what we got by all three of them.
Brentford are the only team that I can recall pumping us at home. Spurs and Newcastle were freak games were everything they hit went in and we were by far the better team against Bournemouth for 95% of the game, even with 10 men.

We won on Saturday, great result, so what. You either believe in Moyes as the man to take us where we want to be, or you don't. A win here, a loss there doesn't change any considered opinion on Moyes. I think he's a competent manager slowly being left behind. He is not the man who will develop young players. So, either the club decides to abandon the young player first transfer model and pivots to "seasoned pros" like Tomas Soucek to placate the manager, or it changes the manager. Hanging on to Moyes and expecting Tyler Dibling to be "PL ready" in 2027 is a recipe for disappointment.

Anyway, we're merely on the rollercoaster again. We had a great win and those losing faith in the Moyesiah are pulled back in despite second-guessing themselves. Fail to beat Burnley at home tomorrow - a totally different challenge to Saturday that Moyes has fluffed more than once this season - and it'll be pitchforks again from people who can't make up their mind or stand by the courage of their convictions.

Holding on to Moyes means getting mid-table, standing still, early cup exits, "respectability", undeveloped young players, and treading water. Hold on to him and we'll be back here this time next year wondering why Dibling, Aznou, and Röhl aren't first-teamers, why we are out of two cups, and why if only we had beaten Coventry and Millwall at home we would have been top six.
I would hate someone like Declan Rice to come through at Everton under Moyes or for us to win a European trophy. That would be a disaster.

Is this season not any better than we have experienced for years?

Most agree that long term mid table mediocrity is not good enough, but take into account where we were about 12 months ago, this is nothing short of miraculous. Only the Brentford manager has performed so far above expectation, compared to Moyes.

We have tried all sorts of new faces that have only made things worse. Moyes will and should see out his contract and we go from there.

The frustration is that Moyes has cracked the hard bit of consistently winning games away from home yet can’t adapt his system or players at home to really make it count. And that’s what you pay Managers for, to find the solutions and enact them to improve.

We have improved from last year. The inconsistency is what you’d expect from a team in transition. Yet because of the away mastery it’s making the home failures all the more frustrating.

That’s nonsense Newcastle comfortably beat us, we had only 2 shots on goal to their 8 and they smashed us on
The XG, it wasn’t a freak
But Brighton and palace should have beat us if you’re going off chances. Even West Ham and Wolves finished stronger, we don’t even have a shot on goal in 2nd half v wolves

I think he's done ok due to the away form but not close to miraculous for me. While I appreciate him ensuring we stayed in the prem, our first season in this stadium has been absolutely dire and I feel its mainly been down to bizarre team selections and lack of ambition. The way we went out of both cups was unacceptable and no matter what the circumstances, there should never be a time where Everton aren't aiming to win some form of Silverware and never be a time where fans accept it.. But here we are.

This new stadium was meant to be a new start for Everton but we're all terrified of trying to be successful because of how bad things have been. We're playing poverty football in a shiny new stadium and fans deserve better, especially with price hikes and the heroic support the fans have gave the club and players over the past 7-8 years.

Moyes is doing ok and I can't complain about the league position but if we want to be a big club again we need to do a lot more than wave lots of flags and shine some fancy lights. I hope we get a new manager in the summer and back them financially, theres enough quality players in this squad that with the right additions we could have a go.

I think the concern ie that a lot of the away results have been quite small margins this year. Not that there's anything wrong with that, and we are allowed to have a good goalkeeper as well. But a little bit of bad luck or one moment can change the result and lose you two points.

Going forward we will really need to be better at home if we want to be consistently better. You need to be able to rely on decent hone form in case you have a bad 3 or 4 games away - and that can happen to really good teams.

We need to find a way to play for more than 45 minutes at home and need to find a way to create far more chances. The away record is great right now but we just haven't worked it out at home at all.

Making yourself look a bit of a fool here mate because Moyes developed Rice superbly and the vast vast majority of his games were as a CM. This isn’t some tin foil hat hypothetical.
