2025/26 David Moyes

100’s of millions to the Club? In his first stint he spent £203M and brought in £160M if web figures are accurate which hardly supports the idea that he recruited and developed players at a profit. And “being the best of the CL clubs” is a bit fanciful to be honest.

They are indeed misleading, many of the players he bought were sold after he left notably Stones.

Per season his net spend was around 4 mill (while here).

You also exclude higher placed prize money and Euro qualification.

Really he was Everton’s biggest asset.

We were the best of the rest on average consistently on a 4 mill net spend.

But he’s not a right back. He’s a midfielder.

This is my point, he might do a job at right back but it’s pointless because if Garner is going to impact the team we need him in midfield. Play an actual right back so Garner can influence the game in his natural position.

Same applies to Branthwaite. Look at the game against United we were absolutely done for pace down the centre and we have got absolutely done over because our only central defender who had any bit of catch up pace was playing left back and up the pitch.

The only times messing around with player position works is if you’ve left with no choice due to injury or it’s a one off tactical change. Insisting with it like Moyes does just makes no sense.

Michael Keane is a better finisher than Beto and Barry and we’ve used him as a target man in the 90th minute if we’re a goal down before. But you’d never genuinely start him up top over a number of games. Because he doesn’t have any of the other attributes needed to play that position longer term. Exactly the same applies to midfielders playing right back
Except Garner can and has played right back many times. He even started out as a central defender, so it’s not like he is inflexible.

Its noticeable how fans are talking about Moyes potentially going in the summer but the journalists who should be closer to the club are not.

Whether that is because the journalists don't know anything these days or because the fans are being unrealistic, time will tell.

Them journalist are scared to say anything bad about the club and mangers, the same numpties thought dyche was still doing a good job a month before he was sacked and 2 months before, were taking about him getting a new deal and taking us into the hill Dickinson
Also they would talk about doucoure getting a new deal and maybe we can get a cheaper deal off Leeds to buy Harrison

They wouldn’t know ambition if it smacked them in the face.

All we know for certain is, Moyes wasn’t TFG’s man. Had dyche lasted till say March and then we put Baines and Coleman in as interim’s and got a new manager last summer. It wouldn’t have been Moyes

I don’t think there are any UK journalists close enough to the club - or more specifically the decision making Friedkins, to have any idea if they’re getting an itchy trigger finger or not.

A lot to admire from Moyes, but what it highlights is Kenwright's inability to generate the finances that would have enabled us to compete with City, Chelsea, Liverpool etc.And year on year the gap became wider and wider.

The majority of his buys were unbelievable value and became assets worth way way more than we paid. The fact that we didn’t decide to monetise them is irrelevant. His transfer business allowed us to finish top 6/7 year in year out despite having one of the lowest net spends in the league during his tenure. £40m net spend over 10 years is absolutely nothing.

The caveat to that is, at the time only a handful of teams were spending money. 12/13 had similar spending

Think there are big decisions to be made mate, we've committed a fair bit in the sense Rohl will be made permanent. That leaves a decision to be made on Grealsih (who is a self confessed Moyes fan boy) - i suspect Moyes would like him back, but if you add the two that's a decent chunk of our resource.

Then you have George also, we may have committed a lot before we look at anything else.

Or we just do Rohl as are obligated to do and if a new man coming in he maybe doesn't do Grealish or George...........maybe.
And the horrible bit about all that is we don't even mention FB's and CF, arguably an even bigger hole!
