2025/26 David Moyes

9th sounds good, 11 points from 4th does too.

But if we're saying that, I think we need to also acknowledge 3 points from 14th - which would be backwards on both our previous seasons. That's not moving in the right direction. We've scored less this season vs Dyches full season, and remove 10 points as we did this time then and we sit where Forest are.

It's small margins, we're talking 1-3 results can mean the difference between 'wow we finished x' and 'what a terrible season'

So either Moyes is the right man, or he isn't. If you're changing that opinion on Moyes, of all managers, based on such margins then I'd suggest maybe reconsider.

Where do you think this squad should be finishing?

We’ve posted 48 points the last two seasons. If we get a similar amount again then TFG might rightfully ask where did over 100 mill of transfer fees go?

One question I’d be asking is why are we playing players that previous managers bought, who won’t be at the club next season, over players that this managers has bought and spent big money on and have long contracts?

Why have we been/are we selecting Gana Keane Coleman McNeil over Rohl Dibling Branthwaite Alcaraz Aznou George etc.

Even Iroegbunam (who I like btw) seems to be further ahead in Moyes’s estimates than the two midfielders he’s actually bought in Alcaraz and Rohl.

They have wasted that £100 million, and there really needs to be an inquest in to why that happened. I don’t believe it’s entirely on Moyes either, as the scouting and recommendations have to be in question too.

Times up Moysie...a big fan but hes not taking us on any further..history repeating itself picking favorites and getting them in te team in any position at all costs
That is exactly how I feel, last night play Patterson and Mykolenko and then that puts Branthwaite into his natural position at left side centre half and Garner into midfield. Its not like its friggin rocket science, its just bloody stubbornness and having to play Keane at any cost.

This is the thing, everyone can see we have gaps all over the team, an injury/suspension here and there exposes the squad and we need another few windows to repair the damage done under Moshiri.

But then people seem to have higher expectations then say 8th/9th.

The squad is better then last year, but its still poor in my opinion.

People go on about 140 mill of investment, we're competing with teams who can spend that on one or a couple of players.

Top half.

We finished 13th last season and earned the points to finish 12th the season before. Both times closer to Europe than relegation.

We then stabilised under owners who want to be here and spent a club record figure, before even factoring in Grealish and near £20m obligation on Rohl. Sure, we need to spend more but we need to he going the right way.

Here's the thing though- 9th, or 12th will be very few results which shouldnt, in my view, determine thumbs up or down on the manager.

Hes either the right man, or he isnt.

I get peoples frustration at the line ups and having square pegs in round holes etc I think Moyes is trying to get his best players on the pitch at the same time almost regardless of position.

The weird thing has been when Patterson has played we do look more balanced, he played well in the last game he played and hasnt been seen since, same for Rohl. Aznou had a great little cameo against Sunderland and has been omitted from the squad, looks like Alcaraz was also taken out of the squad last night as well. All feels a bit strange.

On the other hand though we have been so desperate just to have a season where we can take stock and build without the fear of relegation. Most of the signings we have made are for the future and not just the here and now. Some have shown they need some time but have already been written off by sections of the fan base.

If someone had said going into March we'd be 9th and 11 points off 4th at the start of the season we would have have broken their hands off.

I think we can be frustrated with things but also be at peace that we are moving in the right direction and that money will be available once again to try and push on further.
If 11 points off 4th is us being close, then surely us being 12 points off the relegation zone is the same? On a similar note, for all the 'who could ever have dreamed we'd be here at this point after the least couple of years' that's knocking around, in the last 2 seasons we've earned enough points to have been 11 and 14 points clear of relegation at this stage.

Having trekked down from Scotland to watch that last night and spent over a grand in the process, am raging at that team he’s put out.

Utterly pathetic and cowardly. How anyone can endorse the cowardly, uninspiring crap he’s serving up is beyond me.

We’ll finish in a decent position but jeez, we’ve got to aspire to better than his attritional, percentage rubbish. Of course there’s a manager out there who can do better than this.

The new stadium is amazing, hints of what the atmosphere could be like if there was a manager in the dugout brace enough to have a go and put a team out people could feel excited about. The new stadium is muted by a manager playing square pegs in round holes and setting up not to get beat.

Summer they’ve got to make a change but sadly would be shocked if they do.

Here is the blame we Branthwaite probably one of the best centre halves in Europe playing left back, what other managers does this?
one of our best midfielders playing right back, just so he can continue to play Keane in the team.

I will keep saying this until Keane leaves Everton we will constantly struggle, manager after manager will get sacked and they can't see it.

Last night for example their goal Keane had to do everything he could do prevent that inside ball, make hom go on the outside but no he backed off to give him the opportunity

I don't think it's a massively difficult or controversial concept to acknowledge that you might think 9th isn't an unacceptable position in itself, but that the signs for future improvement aren't great and the football is poor to watch. We don't have to be completely binary in our views do we?
Thank you, my god

Points mean one thing - prizes. So they're the most important thing in football for that reason. But that is ALL they mean - every season there's teams that get way more or way fewer points than they deserve. They aren't a very reliable predictor for the future, that's what you use performances for

At some point we have to start prioritising what we’re seeing on the pitch, not just the results. We’ve basically spent a season watching turgid football in the hope of nicking a European spot in a league where anyone can beat anyone. I’d be fine with moving on from Moyes in the summer, going the match has felt like a chore for most of this season.

As I said, we lacked a cutting edge. All over them in the second half without creating clear cut chances.

I watched it with my own two eyes with 52,000 others - we really weren't "all over them". A lot of huffing and puffing, corners with rugby-style scrummages and one rocket from outside the box. We tried to take the game to them, but the quality is severely lacking, as is a coherent style of play. United were as poor as us but you felt if they got a chance they'd score....and they did. We played like the away team at home, the home where we haven't won in seven games. We can, and did, applaud effort but we should expect a little bit more surely?

Maybe some players have been bought with an eye on the future and aren't deemed ready to start yet.

I'm not Moyes' biggest fan but don't really understand the hysteria at the moment. We're not perfect but we're pretty comfortable at the moment. Who knows maybe there's a long term plan in place. Roehl, Dibling, George, Barry, Alcaraz, Aznou etc are all young players and maybe the club has a plan to bed them in
