2025/26 David Moyes

This would be an easier sell if it wasn’t exactly what people have been saying for the last 30 years. Of course I’ll be happy if that’s what happens, I’m just not sure what the basis for believing in it is.
The stadium

We’re selling 12-14,000 extra tickets every home game

People are using the stadium for other events, and that’s only going to keep happening

We have owners who are being sensible and actually have a plan other than “flimflam my way until I can sell it to someone who will let me stay on” or “throw someone else’s money around and hope there isn’t a war in Russia that causes him to be sanctioned”

This is a very different situation to the past

Obviously we’re all desperate for success but;

This. Will. Take. Time

Steadying the ship for the next manager is exactly his job. He knows the score and he's not here past his contract.

The plan I was told was to invest in youth for the first few windows (Aznou types price wise not Dibling) with some 1st teamers. By 27/28 season we should have a a squad to compete with the top 5/6. At this point we should be able to attract a high class coach and not appoint a flavour of the month like previously.

I was told that you weren't told that

Not to get relegated this season. TFG haven't been seen this season much as that really is the goal.
Invest in youth and some 1st teamers in the three summer windows to 27/28.
Have a squad in 27/28 to compete in the top 6 under a new coach.

The players we have signed have bought into the plan. Some players who turned us down in the summer wouldn't buy into it.

Players will turn us down again next summer as well. The less competitive you are the more you struggle to bring in better players and risk losing your own better players in the process.

I find the not relegated stance this season pretty sad to be honest.

When has a mediocre manager ever really got anyone to the destination. Seems to be a given that Moyes Will but I doubt it and the simple fact is if you’re poor in the transfer market you’re not going to improve the overall situation in the medium term because you’re squandering resources. I’ll also fundamentally disagree with you about how you get there isn’t important it absolutely 100% is. Football is after all entertainment, if you’re not winning anything then rest assured people will put up with it more if you’re playing some decent footy.
He’s not going to get us to the destination. That’s literally the point

He’s going to get us stable and pass the baton on to someone who will

That’s literally been the plan since they hired him

If Dyche hadn’t had us sinking they would’ve probably just kept him around to do it

Then we have to sell them and buy well

The plan needs to be the plan and we need to stick to it

There is no instant gratification here. It’s going to be long, arduous, and sometimes even miserable, but we have to knuckle down and see it through

Sorry, that’s just what supporting Everton is going to be in the short term. Best accept it now
I agree it takes time but disagree on 5 years. A 5 year rebuild is not realistic in modern football because you lose your best players repeatedly if you only move at that pace.

You don't have to do a whole lot to really move up this year. We need urgency to get better and we need to be laying the foundations now. I really dont think a team selection like we saw tonight is moving us in the right direction. People can only get behind a long term plan if we see progress and a vision for the future. Moyes isn't providing that right now.

I’m sorry but the destination is everything

That’s the mindset people need to have

If we’re winning cups in 5 years time and competing for champions league places then I’m not going to be arsed that we had some dull football under Moyes for 18 months so he could lay the foundation to get us there, and nor should anyone else

Unfortunately I haven’t seen one shred of evidence that we’ll be doing anything like that. We are treading water at best.

What “self respect” are we going to gain from sacking the manager mid season when we don’t have to and then scrambling to find a replacement when we could just do it at the end of the season and have a much smoother transition?

Oh yeah, I can FEEL the self respect just oozing out of all of us with that one 🙄

Nose, spite, face etc
5 more home defeats will be marvellous.
Lance, the, boil etc

I do wonder if West Ham forums looked like this before he left?

Hopefully we make better appointments than they have…
Probably. We’ve got some real talent here though. It’s nights like this where his shortcomings are highlighted.

I’ve been a supporter of Moyes because he’s certainly stabilized us, but I’m still frustrated with how we’re playing and setting up. The very best managers are adaptable. Moyes hasn’t shown he can be outside of one random half a month ago where he shifted our formation at halftime and it actually worked.

Is this about money? Newcastle and City are owned by nation states mate. A few Euro games aren’t making us competitive on the money.
