2025/26 David Moyes

We can't win them all.

I thought it was alright and we got suckered on the counter by their 200 million worth of forwards.

No matter how we set up we are not making a functional striker out of Barry.
Tend to agree, but the result is all that matters.

Moyes has to find a way of getting results at home - I don't care whether he's picking people's favourites or not and what position he's playing them in, none of us ever agree on that entirely, we just need to get a couple of home wins, however that happens.

There's been plenty of games at home this season where I haven't thought we were bad, tonight included, but it's past the point where I'm inclined to give any credit for it.

Need at least a point at the weekend and any result other than beating Burnley on Tuesday is unacceptable.

The LB and RB on the bench are horrific footballers and not at a PL standard. I mean I think that part is really easy to explain.

It seems to wind people up but James Garner is both comfortable at RB and our best player there. Call him Phil Lahm if it makes you feel better, but playing him at RB is the right decision and it did pretty well today. Branthwaite at LB I'm less inclined to defend. Also a half decent manager could easily concoct the most basic structure that defends as a back four and attacks as a back three and we'd be fine with him there.

We don't have a half decent manager though.

We started a CM at LW because the manager insisted on keeping a player he should have loaned and now has to make that decision look justified.
Don't really agree. I don't think that goal happens with him at CM. I don't think it does with Branthwaite at CB either. Weakening the center of the pitch to strengthen the FB spots is dumb, imo.

We all understand the value of fullbacks, specifically because we don't have any good ones. But they'll never be as important as the center of the pitch

Aston Villa have scored aba 100 goals from outside the box this season while we struggle to even get a shot off despite being able to get possession in those dangerous areas

Compared to previous seasons it’s acceptable

We’ve got a mid table squad and we’re in mid table

Not something to celebrate but I think perspective is required here

Under Moshiri we were circling the drain

Under TFG and Moyes we can at least have some hope that we can kick on now

That kicking on likely won’t happen with Moyes at the helm, but he was always here to steady the ship for the next manager and he’s basically doing that
Steadying the ship for the next manager is exactly his job. He knows the score and he's not here past his contract.

The plan I was told was to invest in youth for the first few windows (Aznou types price wise not Dibling) with some 1st teamers. By 27/28 season we should have a a squad to compete with the top 5/6. At this point we should be able to attract a high class coach and not appoint a flavour of the month like previously.

How many of those young players will stay or be encouraged to come with the lack of appearances under Moyes.

The Branthwaite piece I can see, but that goes to the bit about structuring the team differently. As for Garner I’m not sure how his playing midfield fixes a ball getting bombed 70 yards over our heads. We controlled the game against a good team and were awful in the final third. That’s basically every game with Garner too at best, and we’ve also been torn up with him in the center.

Have a few young players now, but it’s like watching a team of 35 year olds the way they are sent out. No athleticism on show at all. The PL is quite grim to watch now, but this ponderous hoping for a flukey goal when a defender slips over is so outdated.

We like to say all our players are crap, but there are genuinely teams with less quality but more purpose and drive and pace that will finish above us again.

Harsh word, but tonight was cowardly. Have to trust the fanbase will back you if you lose when going for wins whilst developing for the future. If you play just to not lose and then lose, you’ve got nowhere to go have you? You have achieved nothing at all, and fans hate watching our games.
