2025/26 David Moyes

He came on after 15 minutes or so for the injured KDH against Chelsea, and he wasnt good at all...

Whole team wasn't. And its not really fair to judge him away from home against one of the top teams compared to anyone else...especially at home which he hasn't had much of a chance.

Here's a source I think we can agree is reliable. The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) https://football-observatory.com/WeeklyPost513

You have to filter to "ENG". We are ranked 14th according to this. Unfortunately it is Euros but they're Swiss so that's what you get.

It says City’s highest transfer fee was €90m / £78m which seems at odds with just about every reported fee for Grealish….
So even if he’s excluded from City’s squad, he & his fee should appear in ours otherwise it skews the figures….

I think he is excluded because he isn't part of the City squad this year he's part of ours and we haven't paid a fee for him yet.

That table isn’t as reliable as is being suggested.
Besides its fees paid not squad value if those player were for sale. Both Branthwaite and Skiliman will be massive under valued in there.

But it fuels the poor old Moyes story of over performing with a two bob squad.
I mean it's based on the fees we paid for them.

I'm sure the same applies to other teams who have players worth more than they were bought for.

It's meant to be a baseline for comparing how much investment each squad has received. Ours has received the 14th highest and yet people are upset we sit 8th.

Fact is he simply is over performing and you just don't like to admit it.

Why should hit ours? Did we pay 100 million for him?

Behave.

We paid a £10m loan fee for him, so you can include that if you like. However we didn’t pay £100m for him in 2021 so sadly you can’t use that.

Is squad worth or squad spend?
I’m not really sure what value the table has for whatever argument is being put forward tbh.

But if it’s to suit the poor old Moyes narrative then let’s just ignore the £100m player we have / had in the squad.
And the defender that most on here claim to be worth £80m if we were to sell him.
Or the attacking midfielder who cost £14m but people would be horrified about if we let him go for less than £50m

If City valued him as a £100m player they wouldn’t have loaned him out to Everton for £10m would they? What are you even going on about here?

I’m going on about what that table is supposed to represent…..
Squad cost, squad value or what?
If it’s simply squad cost, rather than value, whatever why you butter it, our squad has a £100m player in it, I’m confused why that would be ignored in that context.
If it’s squad value, sure he’s no no longer worth £100m of course, but neither are Skiliman worth £14m or Branthwaite worth £1.7m(iirc) and I very much doubt we have the 14th most valuable squad atm.

Yet that table seems to be getting used to show how Moyes is out performing that 14th place. Just seems a bit meaningless.

That’s fine. You have to write Barry, Beto, Rohl and Dibling down to zero in that case and you have to inflate the value of other teams talent on the basis. You need to compare apples with apples. You’ll no doubt compare every fruit possible until you find a suitable one to throw at Moyes to justify your prejudices.

If we must count Grealish as a £100m player then we must count Branthwaite as a £1m player because that was the last permanent transfer fee paid for him. If people want to use these rules then I’ll play along, just hope to see some consistency from those with unhealthy agendas that’s all.
But that’s the point, Branthwaite will be classed as £1.7m player in that table. So why would a £100m player be ignored?
